I have started on a piece, not the one I was talking about, though. Maybe I'll try to get a few of them done.

I finally figured out what I want to do yesterday and started. I'm hopeful about getting it done by the 15th. Dawn

I already ripped part of the new one out twice, lol.

Wow, Cat. You're really taking this "rip-it" challenge seriously! Dawn

The miracle is that I still keep going. In this case I changed the original plan almost completely.

I'll be looking forward to the finished piece - never give up! I've run into a problem too, but I'm determined to figure out why and to figure out how to fix it. Dawn

Oh, it is finished, it was just too dark to take a picture. I'm writing on a blog post for it now and found a post from 2012 when we did this as a blog carnival!

Good job, Cat! Ha, that's funny about the blog post - I guess we've reached the point that we are repeating ourselves! OK, I solved my problem and have finished the first part of my project. Off to do Part 2. I won't get it posted today because it's getting to be too dark for photos, but I should be able to get it posted tomorrow. Cat, we seem to be on the same schedule today! Dawn

I think it was my suggestion because I'm such a professional at ripping up things, lol! Okay, here we go. Before - one of my very first wire wraps. This rock reminds me of an impressionist painting and I have no idea how I would think this wire abomination would work. After - bead embroidery (that's the "gorilla knuckles back" I have shown on FB). I thought a painting needed a frame and I went for a gilt one, very old-fashioned. If you are interested in the journey, there's the blog post. That the colors of the stone look so different, has to do with lighting. The first one was just light from the window on a day without sun (I had already deleted the other pictures completely). The second one is on a grey day, but under my daylight lamps.

Your description of The stone as "impressionist painting" suits it well. I love the new setting much more. It is beautiful.

That's a beautiful do over, Cat! Even with the lighting change, it's looks like a completely different stone. The gold beads go really well with it. I will say, though, that I see a lot of possibilities in that wire design. That's something you could re-visit some day too. Dawn

Thank you, Irith and Dawn! Dawn, I think I had no idea what to do with extra wires, how to be safe about the stone staying in there - so slippery - so I just went wild. I have used the "holding strand" in other examples, but with much simpler stones, so I didn't hide too much. Don't dare thinking of a wire or a "pick up an old design idea" challenge

Hmmmm..."wire re-do" challenge, eh? Ok, here is mine. First let me apologize for the poor picture quality of the original work. I used my camera at night and had to resort to using the flash. I was never completely happy with these and they have been sitting in a box for years waiting for me to do something with them: Since I am new to soldering, I thought I might find a way to practice and still make something out of them. I cut them apart and used the blue shell beads in the center. I was also able to re-use the flower petals I cut off of the original pieces. They are silver toned because I covered the copper wire with silver colored solder. They are far from perfect. I still have not mastered making solder dots which is what those bumps on the ends of the petals are supposed to be. But, I managed to make two of them that are very close to the same shape and size, they are functional and kind of cute in a "this person has no idea what they are doing but jumped in anyway" sort of way. Overall, I'm quite happy with them and am looking forward to wearing them for Spring. Dawn
