MarchApril 2023 Challenge - Rip It

My apologies for being a few days late posting our next challenge. Time got away from me.

Your challenge this time is to rip apart something you made but never finished or were never happy with and to create an entirely new design using the beads and components from your ripped up piece. If you never got as far as attaching ear wires or a clasp, you may add ear wires/clasp, but other than that, you have to use what was in the original work. You don't have to use all of it but other than ear wires/clasps you are not allowed to add anything new.

However, you may use new supplies such as beading wire, wire, cord, jump rings and pretty much anything that can't be salvaged from the original work. You may also use a different technique to create your new designs than the technique that was used in the old piece. I realize that there may be some questions about the rules I've set down, so please don't hesitate to ask for clarification if you aren't sure about something.

Please post your entries to this thread by April 15. If you are late, but still want to participate, we are pretty loose with our deadlines.

Hm. I can think of two pieces I have been wanting to rip up, but one just has a bunch of pearls and the other one not much more than that. I'll have to check my drawers.

Cat, we can bend the rules and say that you can use the parts from both of those pieces and combine them into one new piece.

I have a bangle which I reticulated and after I've finished it and set two stones in it, it broke suddenly. Of course I made a new similar one instead, which was much stronger, I decided I would use parts of the broken one, to make new pieces.

I will post one of them here wehen I finish.

I want to add an additional thing to our challenge. If you haven't already ripped your work, would you please take a photo of the original and the new design - like a before and after. I should have thought of that earlier. Thank you!

I checked my drawers and just ripped up five pendants which made me see once again that my wire pieces hardly ever use more than one kind of component, cabs in this case. Not only can't I work with wire right now, I also don't really want to, so I have to keep looking.
The pearl pieces don't help, either, because combining them would just mean two different kinds of pearls.

So I am actually still clueless, lol.

Cat, I've been thinking about this very thing the last few days and I think the challenge should be modified. My original intent was so that people wouldn't use one thing from the original piece, add a bunch of new beads/components and come up with something that really didn't incorporate much from the original.

That really limits what we can do, so let's just say that the new work has to include components from the original work, but that new components can be added to the new piece.

You know what ... I think I will be going for some subtle ripping up of a piece I have showed here just a while ago. Maybe that will help selling it after a thousand years

This is the open bangle which broke:



I made a new similar one with thicker Sterling Silver and the customer was satisfied with the result, and returned the broken one.

I cut off the piece with the stones and decided to make a pendant necklace with it. As I didn't wish to damage the stones, I filed around the broken piece to a square, and set it on a larger part of the bangle with sterling throngs which I hammered around with a punch, and so I didn't need to use fire near the stones.

I am saving what is left of the bangle to make rings with it.

Irith, that turned out beautifully! What a great save and so resourceful of you to find a way to re-purpose the cuff. Nicely done!
