Sophy, we call it both egg shell or satin finish. Both kids rooms were done in flat. Can you imagine the horror? Oh, the humanity! I'm dying to see what the door looks like. The Bourbon against the Sassafrass is perfect. Am making a trip to Ave tomorrow. I try to get there when the "paint lady" is working; she's a whiz at what to get and to do. IS IT DONE YET?

We still have to bring in the other smaller shelving unit and I need to figure out where I want to put the furniture. This is the puke beige metal shelving unit that hubby painted burgandy. He did such a nice job; it looks brand new! My great grandfather's old trunk. Another shot of the door. The brick wall is a little darker than it appears in the photos. Hopefully, we now have something that looks like natural stone, still shows the block pattern and isn't too dark for the room. Things that still have to be done are paint the door that is going to be a table, mount it to the wall, decide how to arrange the furniture, clean up two old lamps that I plan to use and find shades for them, line the shelving units with shelf liner so that the nice paint job doesn't get scratched up and move in. Eventually I want to hang photos/artwork on the walls. Still a lot to do, but it's getting there! Dawn

Thank you so much! Gayle, do you have a spare bedroom you could take over? My total investment in this project is just under $200 and that is mostly paint, brushes, tray liners, rollers and masking tape. I'm feeling good about using furniture I already had and refurbishing it, recycling, upcycling and not contributing to more consumerism. In a week or so, I'm planning a trip to Good Will to find glass globe shades for the lamps (they have a ton for $1.00 each), something that will make a cute waste basket, a tray for keeping beads from rolling around and I'm also keeping my eye out for one of those revolving spice racks that has holes for jars of spices to fit into. I want to spray paint it and use the jars for components like head pins, jump rings, ear wires, etc. This afternoon I carried most of my stuff downstairs. Lost track of how many trips up and down the stairs, but I am so tired. Got my exercise today! Dawn

Dawn, I have the spare bedroom.
I share it with the guest bed and my hubby's clothes, though. I'd say I have about half the room. It's tricked out with shelves and cubbyholes and I have my beading setup. It's a nice room, but I wish it was all mine.
It's a pretty good setup-I'm not complaining at all.

Half is not bad and it sounds like you've made it a nice space to work. I think I know how you feel after sharing a corner of hubby's office with him all these years. I could never really spread out and always had to keep in mind that it was his office. That meant being as organized as possible while occupying a very small space because I didn't want to encroach too much. Not saying that he wasn't generous with the space, but he is running a business out of his office and that's the main purpose of the room. All these years we had that room downstairs that was originally set up as a guest room. Trouble was that in all that time, we had two guests which is why it was slowly turning into a storage room. After retiring this year, I decided that the room was going to waste and claimed it. Didn't think you were complaining; it makes me happy that you're happy for me. And, I didn't mean to go off on a big ol' ramble, sorry about that! Dawn

There's no ramble, Dawn. Just the facts, ma'am!
I am VERY happy for your new space! It's been fun watching you paint, prepare and move in. I love that you're sharing this with us!
Can't wait to see the finished studio. It's gonna be da bomb!!!

I love that trunk, what a wonderful memento. You have come very far very quickly, isn't it great to be creative and be able to do all of that yourself? You will never want to come out of there again!

Wowsers! I have to admit the bright blue lines on your door looked really odd but now I see it was painter's tape.
Didn't get to Ace because was busy shoveling snow. There's about 2 feet (it's settled a bit); would you like some???

Thank you so much to all of you. I'm not sure who's had more fun here; I looked forward as much to sharing the photos as you guys did seeing them, I think! Later today, I'll add some photos of the mess the room is now in because all of my stuff got moved down there yesterday and I haven't yet done anything with all of it. I see a lot of sorting and throwing things away ahead of me, but it's a great time to really organize things. Cat, I've had that trunk for years. I inherited it when my grandmother died and never knew what to do with it. It doesn't fit anywhere in our house so it's been down in the garage collecting dust, but I always wanted to keep it hoping the someday I'd have a use for it. What I've decided to do is put all of my packing materials, bubble wrap, jewelry boxes and mailing envelopes in it. When I get an order I'll be able to take what I need out of the trunk and use the surface of the trunk as a space to pack and prepare things to be mailed. Brrrrrr, Sue. No thank you unless you want to ship it to the higher surrounding mountains so that we have some water this summer. One thing about shoveling snow is that it's great exercise and it's free. Stay warm! Dawn
