No wonder those colors looked familiar. While I thought going from a bright white to any other color might affect pics I have to say the Sassafras Tea creates a wonderfully warm feeling. That old fridge is starting to look good now: bright and colorful. At the very least, if it doesn't work it could become storage space after you do something intriguingly cool... (Now honestly, Gayle, when did you stop actually being the devil's advocate and stepped up to just "playing" )

Gayle, don't go planting seeds of doubt in my head! I think it'll be fine, but if it's too dark I can always paint over it with something else. Thank you everyone for all of your enthusiasm and encouragement. I feel like you're right here with me as the room takes shape. Hoping to get the other two walls and the ceiling done today. More pics later. Dawn

Hahahaha, Sue! I am the devil's advocate and I like to play one!
Sorry, Dawn. You're right. You can always repaint if you don't like the color.
I'll stop planting (for now).

OMGosh! Wait until you guys see the brown wall. We now have fun and funky for Michele and have also resolved Gayle's concerns about it being too dark. Talk about a happy accident! Dawn

Alright, I need you guys to be brutally honest with me. The brown wall is a wall made out of cinder blocks. They are porous and bumpy. I was going to paint them solid brown but when I was rolling on the paint, I noticed the pattern of the blocks showing through and thought it looked really cool. So, instead of painting it solid brown, I decided to leave the block pattern showing thinking that it would provide some of the funky, fun look Michele mentioned and that the white showing through the brown would help keep the wall from being too dark which was something Gayle thought could be an issue. I really like it, but when hubby came home from town and went in the room to check my progress, the words out of his mouth were "I hate it." Man, did that make me feel like a deflated balloon. On the upside, he did really like the blue wall and said it was a beautiful shade of blue. So, I really need you to be honest with me, cuz even though I love it and I'm the one who is going to be using the room, I don't want my studio to look like some weird, tacky room. On the left side of the wall, you'll see a few blocks that have been painted solid brown. I did that before I noticed the pattern emerging and if I keep the patterned wall, I'll paint those bricks white and then paint over it with the brown paint. Argh! I appreciate all of your help. I have to go make dinner and will be back later to look at your responses. Dawn

I'm kind of digging on the brick look. You know, you could always leave it like that for awhile and if it starts to bother you in any way, you could paint it a solid color.
I do think if you painted the whole thing the dark brown, it would really darken the room. It's YOUR room though. Have fun with it!
I'm loving the teal!

What Gayle said.
The blocks add character to the room.

I always wanted a "fake Castle brick" wall in our house but my boyfriend always was against it. So I would go for the brick effect. Only I'm afraid that when you paint the others white again and then brown again the pattern showing through will be different (darker) then the rest of the wall, because the stone have then more layers of paint sucked into them and won't be so porous any more. If that happens you could always "splatter" some dark patches here and there on the wall so it looks as a pattern.

Am curious: how long did it take DH to remove the paint roller from his mouth (would have said another place but I'm sure you wouldn't have ever thought of that).
Could you try a faux thing using a sponge and white paint on the completely brown ones? Even if it doesn't match, knowing how well you paint, only you would be the one to see a difference. And it's your wall anyway.
Glad DH liked the blue wall, it's stunning. Have got to see those colors in person at my local hardware place.

Gayle, you make a good point to leave the wall as it is for now and having the option to change it later if I decide I don't like it. Michele, I appreciate your opinion. Carina, I love calling it the "castle wall". As far as repainting that section of brick, all I can do is try and see what happens. If it doesn't look right, maybe I'll hang some artwork there or hide it somehow. Good suggestions, Sue. I'll try that first. Can't see why that wouldn't work and it would be way easier than getting out the roller, paint tray, etc. You made me laugh with your comment about the paint roller! Hubby and I had a few words last night about being a bit more tactful when offering his opinion. I don't want him to lie and say he likes something when he doesn't, but softening his response a little would be a good thing. I need to stop worrying so much about what he likes/doesn't like and do more of what I like since I'm the one who is going to be working in that room. He told me this himself during our discussion last evening. At least the blue paint seems to be a hit with everyone. Sue, not sure if it matters or not, but if you do check out the colors, I bought the paint at ACE Hardware. Back to work - I have to go to town today to get more Sassafras Tea so that I can finish painting the ceiling. Dawn
