Ok, I will try. Hubby said the same thing. Instead of getting carried away, I am going to do one thing at a time which will give me time to think about next steps. I went to the hardware store earlier today and bought a gallon of Sassafras Tea (light brown), Rue Bourbon (dark brown) and Smoky Mountain Spring (tealish blue). I really like these three colors together and even the paint guy raved about what a great color combination it was, but maybe he does that for all of his customers. The plan is to paint two walls and the ceiling Sassafras Tea, one wall Rue Bourbon and one wall Smoky Mountain Spring. Once all that is done, I'll re-visit the color of the metal furniture and decide whether or not to go with the lime green. I did have an idea earlier about a project that would pull all of those colors together and I think it would look really good. But, I'm going to keep it to myself for now. If I go with it I want to surprise you guys. My goal is to create a room that is inviting, peaceful and that fosters creativity. I also have decided that I want to put it all together by recycling, upcycling and using what I have on hand if at all possible. We're such a consumer focused society and just for myself, I want to do one thing to break that cycle. I took pics of the paint samples, but it's too late and too dark so they didn't turn out to be accurate representations of the colors. Tomorrow I'll take them again and post them so you can see the colors I'm going to use. Can't wait to get started tomorrow morning! Dawn

P.S.S. I hear ya about the carpet, but for now I think I'll leave it. It's nearly new and the floor gets pretty chilly downstairs in the winter time. Plus, I'm not sure poor hubby could deal with it after everything else I've sprung on him the last few days. He's been a really good sport about helping me move heavy stuff, working out how to mount the door in order for it to end up a work table, making suggestions, etc. All this after I told him he wouldn't have to get involved. Dawn, how about using every color we mention and call it your "Wall of Inspiration"? And when spiders crawl across your webby decorated floor say "Oh darn, that's another one that got loose!"
All joking aside, what a great place you'll have. A suggestion: I don't remember if you said you had a sunny window, but if you do maybe you could create a white space around it for pics? And Pinterest has oodles ideas for repurposing things. Even better if you have a goal in mind.

It all sounds great, Dawn. I can't wait to see the paint up on the walls. I appreciate the spider avoidance thing. I think you're going to have a hard time finding dropped components in that carpet. You might be able to rip it up yourself. Pull up a corner and see what's underneath, first, K? Pretty please? With sugar on top? I don't blame you for not wanting to overload your hubby. However, once the main project is done-it's done. He loves you. He won't mind a little extra project here and there, will he?

Caroline, I have dreamed about this for many years - can't believe it's finally coming true! Sue, not so sure about the wall of inspiration. Ha! I'm hoping to turn the area around the window into a photography area. Not sure yet how good the light is going to be. It doesn't get direct sun because it faces north. I'm going to pick up some white foam board and see if that will reflect enough light to make the window sill a good place to take photos. It's about six inches wide so plenty of room for small items. Gayle, I'll take a peek under the carpet. Underneath is a paint splotched concrete floor. The previous owner did body work and used the garage to paint cars. It was basically a paint booth and the floor is red, blue, green, black, yellow, orange, white and not sure what else. ok, I just finished masking the room with tape and put newspapers down. Taking a short break and then it will be time to start painting. Going to start with the light brown. Progress photos to be posted later. If all of you guys lived closer, we could have a painting party! Dawn

Uh, no. Nice try though! These are the colors I'm using. The Sassafras Tea walls are nearly done and I love the color. Am I imagining things or am I using the same color scheme as the one we have here at JAC? More photos later - time to make dinner! Dawn

I love it - the JAC room! I should have a sign made to hang on the door. As promised here are photos of what was accomplished today. Masking with newspaper and tape and covering stuff with old sheets: The tedious detail work - painting the corners and edges with Sassafras Tea. Have you ever wondered who gets paid to come up with names for paint colors? Nearly done with the Sassafras Tea. I painted around the refrigerator until hubby had time to help me move it. The fridge is now sitting in the middle of the room so I can finish painting the walls where it was located. In case anyone is wondering, it will be vacating the room for a spot in the garage. I really like the Sassafras Tea. When I first started painting, I was worried that it was going to be too dark, but I was worried for nothing. The plan for tomorrow is to paint the ceiling in the same color and paint the block wall dark brown. Bonus if I get the other wall painted blue too! Dawn

Lovely colors, Dawn. We pulled up the carpet in my basement workshop because it was hideous. Hubby put down a layer of wood subflooring because he said the old stuff was not good. When I get a chance, I am going to lay down peel-n-stick flooring. It is cold down there, but that is my "messy" workshop, where I paint and glue and do things involving water, so I thought that tile would make for easy clean up. I keep a couple of those radiator-style portable heaters down there to deal with the cold.

Dawn, I love it! I love the colors and I love the idea of calling it the JAC Room! LOL!!!!
One thing-are you sure you want to paint the one wall dark brown? Won't it make it really dark in there? Just playing devil's advocate.
I do wonder who comes up with paint color names...and cosmetic color names...I could go on...
