The first time I made fringe earrings with a pattern in the fringe, and I can't even begin to tell you how often I counted wrong even in the second earring. One lesson learned - don't try to work on earrings with a light grey and white in them if it's too dark o.O I'll replace the picture with a better one once I did the real photo session.

I dunno, bead counting might be too much like following a recipe, for me. Especially when I try to double a recipe without writing the figures down. I am sure the mistakes would be in multiples. Brad

It's okay when working from a printed pattern. I prick the chart with my needle and thus know where I am (just a method I got used to and it's fun to prick something else beside my finger). I couldn't save a pattern on this laptop, long story, so no printed pattern and counting mistakes as a result.

Nicely done, Cat! And, good for you for sticking with it despite your immense frustration with this project. Giving up would have been so much easier, but not as satisfying. Dawn

Thank you, Dawn! These earrings were already the plan B. I had intended to do them all in brick stitch, but I admit it was satisfying to finish something I haven't done before

I love these color combinations. As for counting mistakes. Perhaps you know that in Persian carpets there are sometimes mistakes made on purpose. The makers claim that only God is perfect and one should not compete with him. Besides, many people like minor mistakes in handmade items.

That concept exists elsewhere as well, for example "spirit beads" in Native American beadwork. I have used spirit beads myself before, in bigger items. In these earrings I used a gunmetal and two matte black beads instead of shiny black on purpose, but the pattern is too small for my taste to have bigger mistakes. I could have extended the pattern, but thought it would be fun to have the sharks appear out of the "murky depths" of those dark grey seed beads

I love that tiny unsuspecting swimmer...he has no idea what's swimming below him. Dawn

She. This is inspired by the famous Jaws poster. One of the family's favorite movies.

I didn't know about the "spirit beads" in the native American beadwork. I will look it up and read about it.

No worries, my sister didn't, either *facepalm* That is really embarrassing, she had to admit it herself.

Thank you, Michelle! My brother and I talked Jaws last night once again. I think it's time to have another "shark watch" soon!

I saw the movie again on T.V. not long ago. Was much less impressed than when I saw it on the screen when the movie just came out and was a hit.
