I have been experimenting with resin and things would be going really well if I could leave the darn stuff alone until it dries. There is now a thumb print smack dab in the middle of a pendant that was perfect before I came along and messed with it! ##@!&**&&&@!!!*&!!!!!! At least I know it can be fixed, but my impatience has created extra work that could have been avoided. *sigh* Dawn

Oops, I have not tried resin although it is something I have looked at.

Only one of the reasons I gave up on resin very quickly. I'm sure you'll learn from that very quickly and it won't happen again!

Welll, learn after a long while, seeing as how impatient she was! Post a pic of the offending print?

That's hilarious, Cat. I especially liked the part about reading Finnish upside down! Left a comment for you. To my pleasant surprise, when I checked it this morning the thumbprint had smoothed out. There's a tiny indent that can be felt but not seen but the entire thing is smooth and glossy. The resin must have still been soft enough that it fixed itself. Next time I pour, I'll put a small layer on the pendant and that should be enough to fill in the indent. Yay for having something go right for a change! Dawn

Oooooh, the Dawnmeister is painting again! Nice owl!!
P.S. Dawn, can you believe that Vungula is actually a city in Angola?? Blogger's search function doesn't always work, in those cases I google and I was quite surprised to see that!

Thank you, Cat! After all this time, I was pretty rusty and my first few practice pieces show it. But, that's ok because there was that resin learning curve and a few of them had to be sacrificed. I'm feeling pretty good about the latest and hope to post a completed piece tomorrow. I am surprised about Vungula too! Dawn

I love the owl. Glad the resin self-corrected.
Maybe you could post some tips on using resin.

Thank you, Michele! I've been looking for a way that is faster than my previous method of sealing pendants which involved many coats of glossy sealer, sanding between each coat and weeks of drying time. I think the resin is going to fit the bill. Tips is a great idea as I'm learning more and more every time I mix a batch of resin. My number one tip would be DO NOT LOOK AT, TOUCH IT OR BREATH NEAR IT FOR 24 HOURS!!! Dawn

Cat, I like the octopus. Dawn, the great thing about resin is that it can heal itself. You can sand it, and then pour another layer to restore its shininess. Or so I've been told, I haven't had to do that myself.
My number one tip is make sure to have a few extra bezels or whatnot handy, as you will likely have extra resin and there isn't much time before it sets up. I keep a few papers ready to resin with the extra, which I use in future resin projects or in art journaling.

That's good advice, Carole. Early on I found myself with more resin leftover than expected (a half ounce goes a long ways - can't imagine how far an ounce goes!) and had to scramble to find a way to use it. *drum roll please* Even though he needs another layer of resin to completely correct the thumbprint incident, the owl has been sold! The customer reluctantly agreed to wait until the next time I pour resin. I was going to turn him into a pendant, but the client wants him made into a brooch, so a brooch he shall be. Dawn

Yay for the sale! I read that brooches are in again this year. Mr Owl is going to make a great brooch.

Thanks, Cat! I hadn't heard that about brooches, but it is good to know. I love the way they look, but never wear pins because I don't like to poke holes in my clothes. If they are coming in to style, maybe it's time to make a few and test the waters. Dawn
