As soon as 2016 this may affect us all who sell physical items to the EU, it's already important now if you sell digital products, for example tutorials. euvataction.org/take-action-now/

I knew digital was going to be affected, but didn't realize physical items were going to be included at a later date. Will have to study up on this in order to be prepared. Cat, the petition looks like it's for UK based businesses and I'll admit I didn't read all of it yet. Do you know if people from other countries can participate? It's always something! Dawn

The new rules have started to take their toll already. I was checking out JewelryLessons.com last night and they have posted a notice that because of the new rules, sales of tutorials to Europe have been suspended. This impacts both buyers and sellers in a negative way and it was rather an eye opener to see that notification.
Honestly, it would be in all of our best interests to educate ourselves and to make our voices/feelings on the matter heard.

There where several petitions about this issue, which of course I all signed. but I'm afraid that there isn't much you can do. It's all about money and who has the most of it It's the lobbyists for the big companies who really have the power. The politicians do as they are told by that money and don't think by themselves. btw I saw the notice on jewelry lessons too, I can only get the free tuts now.

Money talks...always has. Carina, I'm sorry you're no longer able to purchase tutorials online from US sites. It's a good example of how laws like this trickle down and have a negative impact on the little people - something those in charge never seem to think about. We can only hope that maybe someday it will be repealed or re-written in a way that is more fair. Dawn

I'm even more worried about the physical items. What if suppliers stop selling to the EU? Not even mentioning that my business is so small that it wouldn't make sense for me to keep it open with all the hassle. In fact this has left me rather demotivated to even promote much at the moment.

Just another example of government control. Nothing good comes out of trying to micro manage peoples' lives.

I signed and posted the petition. I just wonder if those of us who are "small potatoes" will make any difference.
So frustrating.

Just another example of government control. Nothing good comes out of trying to micro manage peoples' lives. It's not government control, it's big corporate and multi national control, The governments are just their puppets, always have been, always will be. The government itself has nothing to gain with these rules, they just are to lazy to use their brains. And don't see that they are being used.

I wouldn't say that. The EU is out to get the big companies, those who do everything to avoid taxes. I even understand that part. Why do you think so many of the big ones are officially situated in Luxembourg? What I don't understand is why there's no limit to separate them from us small ones.

Why do you think that is, Cat? Because they miss out on the taxes.
Btw Europe has big multinationals too, and those are the ones that have the power.

I don't think it's because they miss out on the taxes. Lots of small business will probably close down, so those taxes will be gone, anyway. I think they are not flexible enough and don't care about the small fish. I'm also not saying that big companies don't have power and of course all of this affects the European ones just as much. I doubt, however, that they are the ones who push something that makes them pay more taxes, they will only deal with it much more easily.
