Help. I'm still not sure how I want to finish my embroidery kit piece. I finished the kit - yaaaaay - and added some beads for the face to hide that I didn't do that well with the first side, you could still see the pattern print line and I was afraid to rip the metal threads out again because I didn't know if I would have enough for the whole piece (I would) and then I had plunged them all (drawn through the linen and secured on the back) and didn't want to rip them out again because then I probably would have put it aside.
Now I'd like to have some flowers for the fox to sit in and can't decide if I want to do hand embroidery or bead embroidery as I don't have the flower beads anymore I would have liked to use. So today I went to eBay and got a lot with embroidery cotton skeins and now I think I may need an intervention because I don't really need another hobby (especially not one that I suck at so far, lol).
Maybe I also shouldn't think about having a go at some of my older clothing to practice ...

Enjoy the learning trail. When on the trail in the woods, it’s all nice thoughts of the beauty surrounding you. Just think of yourself on that favored trail as you do whatever. Ha ha, like am one to philosophize like that! Brad

Cat, sounds like you're feeling about embroidery as I am about crochet. I agree with Bard. Learning is part of the journey whether you continue with embroidery or not. And, as we all know, practice makes perfect. Practicing on old clothes sounds like a great next step. I'm currently taking a break from crochet because with the arrival of summer weather, I've lost interest in winter scarves. Dawn

I think embroidery is dangerous for me because there are all those beautiful colors. I really don't need more stash of anything Part of me is probably also intrigued with the thought of combining thread and bead embroidery, I always loved to combine techniques. I'll keep you posted. By the way, Dawn, crochet items don't have to be heavy and warm ... let's see if we can get you into microcrochet ...

I hear ya about the colors, Cat. I'm still working on scarf #2, but I have a huge bag full of different colors of yarn and I don't even know if I'm going to continue crocheting! I do love the idea of combining the two types of embroidery; my mind can already see the kinds of delights for the eyes that you would show us. One thing at a time, Cat, one thing at a time. I'm stuck on scarves right now because they are not complicated and until I figure out how to make straight edges, I'm not moving on to anything else. Dawn

Oh come on, Dawn, you know you want to crochet with sewing thread? If I were better at crocheting with yarn, I would try it with some of that embroidery thread

Just a few of the colors. They were randomly picked and I was a bit afraid I'd get all green or all beige or something like that, but there's a bit of everything. The lot said 100 skeins, but there are actually even more.

Cat, I can barely crochet with yarn let alone sewing thread - my goodness! That's a beautiful selection of colors, I imagine you're quite happy with that lot. Dawn

I used to love to embroider. I have an ambitious large table cloth which I have started, and somehow stopped in the middle, and it is still packed up in a box. It has been in the box for the last 20 years or so, with extra embroidery skeins inside....
Perhaps now that you have reminded me, I will get back to it.

That sounds ambitious, Irith. I'm definitely not thinking anything large because they would just end up as something unfinished, I'm sure. I'm also thinking now that I could even throw needle felting into the mix. My brain will have to do some more spinning

Yes, it was ambitious. Too ambitious! The design looked so great in the journal where I found it, I thought it would take me faster to make, but it didn't. I would love to see what your brain has come up with. I hope it will be shown here soon.

Oh, it's going to take quite a while yet. My kit for the course is on the way and I started watching the first video. The plan for today had been some bead looming and practicing the first embroidery step for the course, but instead I filed stuff today and did a bit of this and that and then fell asleep after I had only had four hours of sleep last night. Now it's too late to start one or the other.

So another thread, I’ve completely missed. I swear, I am getting attention deficit disorder in my older age. Cat, the project I have in mind combines quilting, embroidery, beads, and possibly lacy embellishments. And the last time I even tried embroidery was when I was 16 years old. Eke! And yet…. So of course I’m going to encourage your new found interest embroidery. 😄

Oooh, that sounds very interesting! I'm definitely going to encourage you now!
I still haven't started my piece although I have watched the first videos, set up and first two petals, I have even watched step 1 twice, and I have bound my hoop, but I have the usual "first stitch" jitters. No idea why I always need to get over that first little hump to fully embrace a project.

I feel like that with wire work. And while I’m no expert, I’m not a novice either. But I get jitters every time.
