You know I don't share WIPs often - because I like to go for the big tadaaaaaaa or because I'm too lazy to take WIP pictures or because I don't want to jinx it, I guess all three are true depending on the piece. At the moment, I'm not very keen on making jewelry. Actually I have felt quite unmotivated to make anything in the last weeks, but found that something I had thought about for quite some time and that I finally did, helped me to get more relaxed again about what I make, so this personal WIP, which has been in the making for a while, is just the right thing. I'm quite sure that I posted it here somewhere, but I can't find it right now. I beaded around the rim of a bowler hat (bored me to death, I have to admit), but wanted to put my personal twist on it, so I decided to put beaded butterflies on it. #5 is waiting for his wings to dry (I stiffen them) and to get sewn on and there will be at least three to four more. As I said, I don't take WIP pictures, I just got one of the first butterfly I did. This is also the reason why I didn't make a pattern for the beaded rim, but made it so colorful instead.

Love, Love, Love it! The bright, colorful vibe is just perfect, especially for spring. I thought the bowler was amazing when you showed us the beaded rim; the butterflies are going to take it to a whole new level. Cat, I do believe, you are about to make the world's coolest hat. You are really amazing, sister! Dawn

I think that is just what I need right now, Dawn, just letting loose with colors and patterns, thank you! I will try to take another picture this afternoon after sewing on #5, but it's difficult with the different angles. It would be easier (just not for me ) to have a rotating plate and take a video.

I can see you or who walking through the fair or festival with that hat. As we would say in the sixties..."Let it all hang out!" Brad

I'm almost sure that the inspiration comes from something like that. I'm thinking butterflies in a fairy's hair maybe, but I can't put my finger on it. It just felt right. Another possibility would have been flowers, but I liked the idea of butterflies.

I love this very much. Such an original idea and the bright colors against the dark grey. A real collector's item!

Thank you, Irith! The bowler is black, but I had to use flash as it was evening already. Once it's done, I probably have to try and take a picture outside in the sun. Der Dekan would love to get his paws on this one

Oooooo, it's beautiful! The butterflies look so lifelike and cheerful and happy! It's funny. There was a Renaissance type faire in the town we visited over the weekend and there were several attendees staying at our hotel. I watched several of them all dressed up in their fairy costumes pile into an Uber and butterflies seemed to be the theme of their costumes. They reminded me of your hat. Don't let that little devil near the bowler hat! Dawn

Thank you, Dawn!
Butterflies are so popular. We admire their colors and their fragility (unless a person has lepidopterophobia, of course) and they give outfits something light. I've seen beautiful fairy costumes with fairy/butterfly wings, never in person, though, which is such a pity.

Butterflies are one of the wonders of the natural world, IMO. You would have loved the costumes these ladies were wearing. Makes me wish I had taken photos. Dawn

It is amazing the creativity people put into those gorgeous costumes. Speaking of wearing things, will you be wearing your bowler once it's done? Dawn

Ah, I wouldn't know where to wear it. I did pick a big size, so I could fit my hair underneath, so it is wearable. I've always had problems with my beloved vintage bowler, not big enough to put my hair underneath and with the hair out it kept getting pushed up in the back and ended up over my eyes in the front.

Next thing you know. You will want to learn to play the banjo. Then you will have to decide which style...Bluegrass/Scruggs style, or traditional clawhammer. The bowler wearing John Hartford went ways and played fiddle and guitar. I am a clawhammer guy only. Brad
