I picked up an Australian Opal stone I've had and made a vermeil ring with it. The shape of the stone is a triangle which enables it to be worn pointed side up or down. The ring is a thick (3 micron) coating of 18K Gold vermeil.

I find that the thick vermeil coating holds on for years, so although I used to prefer solid gold for them before, and considering that the stone with the gold make them super expensive, I decided to go with vermeil or gold filled. I also like the combination with the stones more.

That's a good alternative to solid gold, Irith. Dawn

I believe it is Dawn. If the person who wears these rings knows how to place them safely in a box after they wear them. I've seen ruined gold rings too because people wore them for gardening or dish washing or whatever.
