I have found a new passion - I can't get enough of making little critters with the soldering gun. The latest is this seahorse pendant. I used a chemical that is supposed to turn the solder a copper color, but instead of coloring the entire piece, it left copper colored splotches. While I don't mind the look, I'm not sure why this chemical tends to act this way, at least with me. The directions say to remove all traces of flux and to make sure the metal is clean. Thinking that has been the cause of my issues, I thoroughly cleaned this piece and I don't see how there could be any flux left on it, but I still got blotches. This is something I will have to experiment with to see if I can get better results. Other than that, he measures two inches in length and I soldered a loop on the back from which the seahorse is suspended on black leather cord. Click on photos to enlarge photos and see close-up details. Thanks for looking! Dawn

I am SO much in love with this seahorse, hands down my favorite of all your soldered pieces which means somethings as there are some real beauties among them. I love the organic, a little rough look and think in this case the copper spots only add to this feeling.

Awwww, thank you so much,Cat! I like that blotchy look too which is why I'm not upset about the chemical not doing what it's supposed to do. I think I'm going to list the various critters on Etsy as made to order. They take some time to make and I don't want to have a bunch of them sitting in inventory. Dawn

Brad, you are so kind, thank you! I'd love to see your etched seahorse. There is something about them that connects with people. I will be putting up a "made to order" listing in my Etsy shop in the next few days. If you decide you are interested in buying one, just click on the link in my signature or contact me directly through this site's messaging system. No pressure though, I appreciate the thought no matter what happens. Dawn

I love sea horses. I also think that the blotches should be left on. I think that you will feel you have improved after having more experience.

Thank you, Irith. As the saying goes, "practice makes perfect!" Thanks so much, Michelle! It's been a fun journey and I learn a little bit more with each project. What works, and just as importantly, what doesn't! Dawn
