Ok, I admit. I occasionally watch tictoc vids. Mostly of cats, then some other stuff. I watched one on making butterflies out of ginkgo leaves. I should have watched the vid early, when leaves fresher with sturdy long green stems. I will try some more, (try to get equal length stems that are fresher) and again especially after the leaves go golden. I fear the stems will be too fragile then to tie the knot. Brad

There is so much amazing creativity out there. So now you and Dawn have to collaborate. You make the butterflies and Dawn paints them while I'm watching holding a cocktail. We can either meet on your new patio or under Dawn's redwoods.

For years now, we have been hoping for someone to invent a cheap beaming device, Brad

Yes, where is the transporter when you need one? C'mon people, step up and get with the program! Cat, those painted leaves are amazing. One thing I wonder about, assuming those are fresh leaves, how long do they hold up until they start to curl up and dry out? Dawn

Maybe they are treated in some way, like your leaves? I didn't research any further.

I made about 6 of them. But the leaves on my tree were just beginning to yellow, so there were getting a bit dry. That was maybe 4 days ago. Several are still flat. Several are in various stages of curling. Next year, I will make some with fresh leaves. Not sure how painted ones hold up. But perhaps the ink or paint helps preserve them and keep their shape?

It would have been nice if that had been addressed in the blog entry. Before preserving my leaves in resin, I press them between the pages of a heavy book. That seems to stop the drying out/curling up stage. Brad, I'm thinking that she may apply a spray on sealer after painting the leaves. That would stiffen the leaf a bit and make it less fragile while also acting as a preservative. They come in flat, satin, semi-gloss and gloss allowing one to choose whatever type of finish they wish to use. Dawn

The butterflies were painted by the Chinese gentleman in the pictures. I tried to find out more, even went to the Chinese link, but the page doesn't exist anymore.

Ooops, I thought the article also mentioned a woman artist. A quick look at Youtube didn't find anyone painting on ginkgo leaves, although there were lots of paintings of gingko leaves. Dawn

The article mentioned a women whose blog is about ginkgo in general. The pictures were from this blog. I tried looking up preservation of ginkgo leaves etc., but that didn't lead anywhere, either.
