I recently made my first attempt at making prongs with wire. I'm not sure why I waited so long to do this, but now that I have, I'm happy with the look. I'm not sure, but think the stone is dalmation jasper. My cab, like so many of my cabs, was an irregular shape which made the spacing a bit of a challenge, but I think the prongs look fairly even in the finished product. Thanks for looking! Dawn

Ooh, your prongs look fantastic! Great way to show off the intriguing stone. I dabbled with prongs once, but couldn’t seem to manage the prongs and the weaving.

You did such a great job, Dawn! I tried it before, but I think the stone I used may have been too small for a first attempt. It was not a success. I totally obsessed over the spacing of the prongs.

Thank you, Michelle, Cat and Brad! Cat, I was having the same trouble with spacing the prongs. Then I did something I rarely do. Instead of trying to wing it, I traced the outline of the cab on paper, measured distances and planned where each prong should go. It worked! Brad, I haven't taken photos of the back, but I will do that later today and post. Wire wrappers/weavers use the leftover ends of the base wires to secure the cab on the backside of the pendant and figuring out what to do with all that wire can be really tricky sometimes. Dawn

Brad, here is a photo of the back of the pendant. Normally, the two curved wires would have been as close to exactly the same as I could get them, but because of the shape of the stone, one ended up a bit smaller than the other which makes the back look slightly off balance. Luckily, it's the back! This pendant had three base wires which meant I ended up with six wire ends and something had to be done with all of them once the weaving was done. Two of them made up the bail and spirals at the top. The other four were used to secure the back. When there are so many wires to deal with, it's usually a challenge figuring out what to do with all of them and still keep them looking somewhat presentable. The more wires, the bigger the challenge! Dawn

Dawn, you've done one of the most beautiful prong pendants I've seen lately! I love this necklace a lot!

Dawn, I think the wire work you do is great. Way beyond my wheel house. But seeing the back and how you improvised to accommodate the stone’s shape is inspiring. Brad

Thank you very much, Brad! Wire work is quite fun and fascinating and also frustrating at times. There are people out there doing amazing things with wire that are way beyond my wheelhouse. Dawn
