I had this oddly shaped oblong cab in my stash. My first thought was to wire wrap or weave, but since I'm trying to get better at soldering, I thought I'd go in that direction. The colors in the cab remind me of winter skies something we've had a bit of the last two weeks. The chain is stainless steel to which I've added earth toned jasper beads. Thanks for looking! Dawn

This would also have been perfect for the organic challenge. You did a great job with this stone and the chain is the perfect addition.

Nice work. Did you make the silver balls as well? Brad

Thank you, Brad! Yes, I made the balls. I was happy they turned out all the same size as that's something I've struggled with in the past, but I'm not sure why each one has a little dent/line in it. Since they all have it, making them all uniform, I'm not necessarily unhappy about that, as I kind of like the look. I'd just like to know what I did to cause it, so I can do it again in the future if I wish. Dawn

I have only done a little messin with making small silver balls usually to unsatisfactory results. One thin I tried was to burr out a smooth inverse dome hole in a charcoal block to torch the silver in. I still get flat spots. I suppose that makes a good solder contact. But you are ahead of me on silver balls. Good work. Let’s learn together on perfect round balls, eh. Brad

Thank you, Brad! I would greatly enjoy learning and mastering this skill together. For what it's worth, I'm using a soldering iron rather than a torch to make the balls and I imagine there is some difference in technique with two such different tools. I have found that I much more success making the balls if I turn the iron down to a lower temperature. Too low and the balls have pointy little spikes, but too high and they end up flat rather than round. Somewhere in the middle seems to be about right. Dawn

Absolutely beautiful, Dawn! Such a pretty stone. And your soldering is looking really professional.

Thanks so much, Michelle! I appreciate your words about the soldering. I've been working at it every chance I get. Not only do I find it great fun, it's also opened up so many possibilities for future designs. Dawn

I think the oblong pendant would also look good if it would hang from the necklace as a horizontal pendant.

That is a very interesting idea, Irith, and one I hadn't thought of. I did that with another pendant about a year ago and was quite pleased with the results. Thanks for reminding me of this possibility! Here is the pendant I mean. I'm going to try putting this one horizontal and see how it looks. I have a feeling I'm going to like it. Dawn
