I've been looking into copper solder as I'd like to solder copper pieces with something other than silver colored solder. From what I've read, some people like the copper solder, but others say it ends up more of a grayish color than copper colored. Before I take the plunge and spend the money, has anyone here ever used copper solder? If so, what was your experience with it? Thank you! Dawn

I don't know about copper solder with a soldering iron, but I have some copper solder (which will probably never get used again) and soldered one (!) jumpring with it which came out fine. It's #3 in a blog post I found on the topic. The solder, not the jumpring Here's the blog post that helped me, maybe you will find some information in it and in the video. That stuff is so hard, though, I can't even imagine it working with an iron, but of course I'm clueless, so who knows.

Thanks for finding that, Cat! It gives me something to think about. Your comment about the heat needed also gives me something to think about. Hmmmmm... Dawn

I know nothing about any kind of solder. Hopefully, Irith or Brad will chime in.

Yes, I would love to hear from our experienced metal smiths. I think I might end up just having to buy a couple of the copper soldering products to see for myself how they work and if they do what I want. I did buy a chemical solution that is supposed to turn silver toned solder to a copper color, but all it did was turn my solder gray. Aw well, that's all part of the learning process, I suppose. Dawn

Sorry but I've never used copper solder so I don't know anything about it. Only Silver or Gold solder. I wonder whether people who make "Vitrage" items use it.

Thanks, Irith! I hadn't heard of vitrage until this thread. Learn something new most every day! I think I'm just going to experiment with different copper solders and see what happens. Even if they don't turn the copper color I'd like, I should still be able to use them for one thing or another. Dawn

Ah, I never heard it being called vitrage, I wondered what that was. I only know it as stained glass in English. I have never seen copper colored borders in stained glass, though. Dawn, it will definitely be interesting to see what you can find out

I tried to copy paste here a link of the vitrage windows in churches and synagogues, but the link was too long so here it is again for you. www.etsy.com/il-en/market/vitrage_glassvitrage is in French.

We call it "Bleiglas" or "Buntglas" here, "lead glass" or "colored glass".

I won't tell you how they call it in Hebrew in fear you might break your teeth.

Ha, Ha, Irith! Thank you for that information, we are out of town this weekend and I'm not going to have much time online, but I will be sure to look at the links you provided and see if I'm familiar with vitrage under a different name. I'll report back here! Dawn
