So, I just inherited a lot of sterling silver. Like a little over twelve pounds of sterling silver that is in the form of a coin collection. Now, I almost consistently have worked with wire about 18 to 22 gauge for making chains although having sheet around that width wouldn't be bad either. My question is, is it worth my time to try to make some wire from this, probably not all of it obviously, save it for casting, send it to a refinery that could make it into wire if possible, or try to scrap it. I worked at a jewelry store for a few years and I know the shops take a huge cut. Don't know much about pawn shops, but I would guess that would be the same. Honestly, from people I've met in similar situations who just wanted the cash value of the metal, I remember the best way to go about it was to try to sell it on ebay. So, what would you do? Sell all of it and just buy new wire? Or is there a way to save some money by heating it and rolling it into wire? Depending on, of course, how much work would that be?

Since I would not want to go to the bother and work of attempting to make wire or sheet, I would sell it to a dealer who buys silver scrap. There are many dealers online, but one I am familiar with and have purchased supplies from many times is Monster Slayer. Here is a link to their site. Scroll down to the bottom to see their terms and conditions for buying/trading precious metals. Monster Slayer

As with most things, it really depends on if you have and want to spend the time or if you want a quick result. I think rolling wire is rather time consuming, so my own choice would be what Dawn said.

I would definitely offer what Dawn and Cat have advised.

I would likely sell off a portion of the silver to fund ample wire. Then hold the remaining, while you decide what else to do with it. f I have never melted and re-poured any silver. Brad
