Hello, all. I am not yet ready to sell my handmade jewelry at a craft fair, but would like to experiment with setting up a pop-up shop, to see what the public reaction will be. I have an online store that needs to be launched. I have some attractive inventory, and I have business cards. I plan on having a card reader and a cash box, a table and folding chair. Can any of you share your experiences with using the pop-up shop method of selling? Caveats that you might want to share? And other items that I would need to have on hand - or things I need to do - to make my sale a success?
I appreciate your feedback immensely!

I've not done this type of selling, but it sounds similar to a trunk show. I know people who have had great success with them and also with home selling shows. Besides the items you've listed, I would add packaging materials such as tissue paper, boxes and/or bags so that your customers can get their purchases safely home. Good luck and let us know how it goes! Dawn

Dawn, thank you for your response! If you (or others) sell at craft shows and use a canopy, what brand have you found to be reliable?

After I posted, I recalled that I once did something that might be considered similar to a pop up. The bartender at our neighborhood pub admired a pair of earrings and asked me to make a pair for her. I made the earrings and brought them along with several other pairs for her to choose from. While I was showing her the earrings, other customers in the pub noticed and started coming over to check them out. I ended up selling $100 worth of earrings that day without even trying, so I'd say that was a success! I've only done a craft show once and I borrowed the tent so I don't remember what brand it was. You might look into renting or borrowing a tent the first couple of times before actually buying as pop-up tents sell in the $100 - $200 range depending on what you buy. If you find that this type of selling isn't for you, you won't be stuck with a tent, although I doubt you'd have any trouble selling it to someone else. Good luck! Dawn

I hope you’ll come back and share your experience. I toy with the idea, but have never done it.

I am interested in reading your experience after you do too.

I have not done a "pop up" anything, unless you consider "busking" related. What I can say is that, at least playing music, at a high foot traffic area is fun, and you meet nice folks, and you may build interest. We rarely made enough to each get a beer afterwards, though. I am interested, first, in what kind of "spot" have you chosen to set up, and why? And, then I will also follow on how you did? And, what electronic card reader system have you chosen? Brad
