I am beginning to work with hardened steel stamps for soft metals. I have been practicing lines even depths, centering and placing. And how it can warp the metals. I have also learned that solid stamps are much more difficult to work with, then outline stamps. One must make sure your metal is well annealed.
One thing came to me. I have a lot leather around, including belt and bracelet width strips, for making knife sheaths and other gifts. The leather strips are useful for practicing stamping and placement and designing, while preserving the stamp. I may even make some stamped leather bracelets with my metal stamps.
