I made this "bottlejack" printing press, a few years back, for my daughter in law, who started doing printed arts: linoleum block printing etc. Since its for art work, I thought I would share it. Brad

That is one nice tool. Were you an engineer in another life, Brad? Yes, you all are so creative, I'll bet your family get togethers are a lot of fun! Dawn

My mother (who grew up very poor, in a small town) but, was always both art-endowed and craft-handy, a great soprano, musician, and a keen design eye. I suppose that is my creative gene pool origin. Marilyn was born with a needle and thread in her hand. And became a perfectionist on a sewing machine and textile arts-needle point and beading. I learn on the go and the school of hard knocks and failures. And, just associating with other folks like you online and around the town. Brad

A formal education is great and I wish I lived in an area where classes were offered, but there's something special about being self taught. I think maybe it's because those who are self taught are more willing to take risks and break the rules because they often don't know what the rules are or that they can't do "that". I see so much innovation and creativity from the self taught. So, Brad. As impressive as that tool looks to me, how does it actually work? Dawn

Dawn The bottle jack, normally meant for lifting heavy stuff, is in this case lowering stuff-with great force. you put your paper on top of the gridded plate below, put your inked wood block or linocut etc face down on your paper, then start jacking. the jack pushes against the overhead beam and press hard the upper platen down against wood block to press it on the paper. brad

Thanks for the explanation, Brad. That helped me picture how it works. I imagine one gets very nice clear evenly printed prints that way. Dawn
