Count Catula was inspired by a smaller design that I did for a broken cat bead (sans fangs) that obviously isn't to be sold. When I got it, the tail was gone and I always looked for an idea to do something with it because I couldn't toss a black cat into the bin. Then I had the idea to bead embroider some bat wings for it, but when I wanted to glue it on, I saw a fine line going across it. What I had expected to happen, did happen, it broke right through. So I glued it and then I glued it onto the backing and tried all I could to keep it safely on there. I got a lot of lampwork from that artisan over the years and she was shocked, of course I got a new one, in case you wonder. Now the small design gave me the idea for a bigger one. Count Catula was finished last night, turned up in the showcase and just sold to a return customer (despite the picture that I hate). She seems to share my taste for crazy designs as she also got the mermaid and more. I'm glad he found a new home so quickly as he really was fun to make!

Oh, I love him! I can see why your customer wanted him; such a cool and unique design. I'm pretty sure no one else has anything like it! So clever of you to figure out a way to save the original bead too. Dawn

Thank you, Dawn! Actually someone on FB offered to buy the smaller bat cat at a discounted price although the bead is broken, but that wouldn't feel right, also I see Ponder in this one, he would have made the perfect bat cat, so I knew right away I would keep the pendant. All of my winged creatures were inspired by my favorite painting by Heather and I always said that this is Ponder at night. I even named the picture that I took of the painting "MonsterPon"!

It wouldn't bother me to sell something with a defect at a discount as long as the customer was fully aware of what they were getting and they were fine with it. But, sometimes there are things that we make that are just too special to leave us and the smaller piece sounds like it is one of those. It reminds you of Ponder and that right there is reason enough to keep it. Love that painting and I totally see MonsterPon preparing to get into mischief! Dawn

I love the painting and the two Count Catulas that were inspired by it. Such a good save with the broken kitty! These pieces are just fabulous!

Dawn, if it had been something with a ding or so, I might have done it, but I would always wonder how the bead is holding up. Wearing it myself, I can be careful enough or I can even just put it somewhere as a decoration.
Thank you, Michelle! I have one last black cat left, so my brain is already ticking.

Outstandingly beautiful! I put broken stones or beads aside too. Some stones I can fix if they are dmamaged, by slighly changing their shapes.
