Sophy asked about changing the size of a photo in PhotoShop.
First, I use PS Elements 7, the dumbed down version of the regular and very expensive PhotoShop. But I am thinking the process is the same for other programs.
Before experimenting be sure to duplicate any image you'll be working on just in case things go bad (read "lose your photo" here...).
Starting with your photo go into "Edit" mode. Click on the "image" drop down along the top of the editing space and you'll see a few options. (Keep in mind that I'm trying to do this explanation from memory.) One will say "image size" and you click on that. A dialogue box comes up with the photo's info: pixels and inches. Without any cropping a photo could be 1600 x 1200 or any size you chose with your camera settings. Click on "cancel" or just close the box because you don't want to change the size until all edits are done.
After doing whatever you need and the photo looks good go back to "image size" and check again. Now is when you can change the image size so go back to that image size menu on top of the editing space. You'll see boxes for either pixels or inches (these may also have little drop down menus so check yours.) You may still be 1600 x 1200 or just 900 x 900, etc. So: enter the size you really want, usually in the pixel box. I've found that pics around 500 to 600 square or long are a good size for here. Fool around with what looks good; you can always "undo" until you save the result and go back to the regular catalog section. As you change the image pixels you'll see the monitor image change as well (at least I do in PSE 7).
Save with a title that includes something like "small" or "final", anything that gives you an indication of the photo you want to upload here.
Photobucket allows you to edit, including size; Picasa also. In fact, editing programs are meant for you to be able to change photo size.
Give this a try and post if it works or there's something I missed.
