A few years ago I made a three dimension Sterling Silver ring. I sawed the silver and soldered the parts together. I had less experience then. If I made it today I would prefer the much easier way (for me) and use the lost wax method, as most jewelers do these days. I set it aside then and moved to something else. Now I have returned to it and will try to make more of this design. Perhaps add stones. We'll see.

It makes me think of Scandinavian jewelry of the 70s (only that they also used a lot of pewter from what I know, but no expert on this, either). Very clean, very modern, very unusual. Would you add the stones in each of the three planes or one in the center? This looks like you could really have a lot of fun playing with variations! I would love to see a picture of it worn.

I know I have a tendency to make retro jewelry sometimes. I was not inspired by the Scandinavian jewelry here, and did not have an idea of it, but as I used to make richer forms before, I have a tendency to slow down to more basic forms lately. When I wore this ring as soon as it was finished, I entered a shop near my office, and the seller said "you have a very nice ring on your hand". Instead of telling her proudly that I made it I just placed in a drawer, as I sometimes do.... I think I will set 3 small stones of each of the steps/planes, and also have them as two stacking rings without stones. I believe they would look OK too.

A tendency I like. Nothing wrong about retro or vintage! I mostly know about Scandinavian jewelry from when I did a little research about a bracelet I got as a teenager and because my godmother liked Scandinavian jewelry. The research led me down a rabbit hole. I think that those clean lines will not stop speaking to us, just as ornate decorations or shapes from the past keep coming back. Oh Irith, I thought you were better at this than I. What a pity it landed in the drawer and how lovely it came back out now

Thanks for the encouragement Cat. Lately I've been thinking - what will be with all these things I've collected when I am not around anymore? I have become more practical lately. My daughter will not have the time to deal with my collections. Of course she could try to sell in the internet shops. Or let my grand kids do it instead. So I am trying to find my stuff and finish what I have planned

There is enough metal there, that I think there are many things you could do with that. Perhaps a minimalist approach? or inset some small faceted stones? I will follow. Brad

That's very cool, Irith, and very different from your usual style. I really like it. Honestly, I think you could stop right where it is and you'd have a really nice ring. But, add a few gem stones and you've got something really interesting and beautiful. It's a style that could be worn by men or women. Looking forward to seeing where you go from here! Dawn
