This copper was again cut from an old artist friends copper etching plate. There is not much on the backside that was etched, but I am enjoying using re-purposing the copper. It will be a gift to an old friend who is a very avid cigar smoker. Even though I tell him he stinks! ;-) Presently, the piece has been cleaned and prepped for etching, the transfer applied with a vintage iron. I fashioned/pieced the transfer together from clipart, then etched it in acid. It is now annealed and I have decided to use a texturing stamp on all the flat edges, then finally bend and make corners. Brad

How neat! I just need to hear the word "cigar" and am back in my grandparents' living room after Sunday dinner when my grandfather used to smoke a cigar and I sat on the floor playing with their tiny card deck that I loved so much or tiddlywinks for which I made my personal rules, so I could play it alone. I have no idea what brand he smoked, but I loved the scent.

You and Marilyn had that in common. Her grandfather from Germany always had a cigar in his mouth apparently. Marilyn loved him and often reminisces of always sitting on his lap to listen to his stories. It as soon as she got home she washed her haired and changed clothes. Full disclosure. I like the smell of a fresh burning single cigar. Not a room full a dozen different cigars burning. I do not smoke , and do not like cigar clothes. That said, I know if I were given a nice cigar and smoked it, I would be “hooked.” Trouble is, I always stink of something anyway. Mostly due to making jewelry. Brad

Thank you, cat and Irith, for your kind comments. The tray is progressing. I ended up giving the flat area of the borders a texture treatment with a fine small texturing tool. Hopefully it pops after polish and patina. I have roughed in the border edging and annealed again. Next to form corner cigar rests. Brad

What a wonderful gift that is going to be. I also really like that you are re-purposing something that had a previous life. Your friend is going to really like that stink or no stink! My Dad smoked pipes when I was little. I liked the smell then, but as an adult I find it makes me nauseous. Luckily, I don't remember the last time I was around a pipe smoker. Wait, yes I do. It was at a motorcycle race about 25 years ago and we had to move to different seats because the smell was causing my stomach to rebel. Dawn
