In other words, you are a tease. I bet you were laughing when you wrote this. It's okay, I can be patient *tapping my fingers on the open laptop*

Well, I like to think of it as sharing my excitement that I finally finished the darn thing! Your wait will soon be over, Cat. I'm going to wrap up this project and get it posted today. Dawn

OK, after taking much too long, being the latest with a challenge piece I have ever been, countless delays, and apparently some teasing, here it is...the much awaited birth sign challenge piece by yours truly! When I said last night, this is one of the most ambitious pieces I've ever done, I wasn't kidding, but perhaps I should have said most challenging. I put most of my skills to work to come up with this - wire wrapping, wire weaving, soldering and some miscellaneous stuff as well. The scorpion was sculpted and wire woven as a separate component. The underlying frame was wrapped in copper wire , the body is a form of herringbone weave (at least that's what I'm calling it), the wire for the legs and the tail was twisted with the help of a dremel. The pincers are free form and the the tail finished off with a spiral. The bezel was wire woven and once it was finished, I soldered the scorpion from the back. After that, the entire thing was oxidized with LOS and polished with steel wool. Then the stone was placed inside and the wire wrapping to secure it was completed. Instead of wrapping the ends of the copper wires to the back of the bezel, I soldered those into place too. Decorative spirals at the top used up the remaining loose wires and then I wire wrapped a golden yellow crystal bead and two small gold ones at the top to represent topaz which is the birthstone for Scorpio. The blobs of soldered were larger than I liked, so I ground off the excess with the help of the dremel and then darkened them with a chemical made for that purpose. There are a few things that could have been done differently, but overall I'm so pleased that I managed to pull it off. I also learned so much from making this pendant that I'll be able to use in the future. That is enough blabbing - here it is! And, a pic of the back so you can see where I soldered. Dawn

Dawn, this was well with the wait! Amazing! You used my favorite wire weaving pattern for the bezel. And the scorpion is delightfully creepy.

I love that you have dug deep in your technique box and how you combined them all. This is a stunner (and no, that's not supposed to be a bad pun)!!

Thanks so much, Michelle! That weaving pattern reminds me of fire and I've always thought of Scorpio as fiery. Even better that you find this one a bit creepy as Scorpio usually seems a bit on the sinister side. Thank you, Cat! I did dig deep and I've always liked a good (or bad) pun! Dawn

Dawn, your Scorpion is amazing.
I commented on this two or three days ago, but my comment has mysteriously disappeared...

Thank you so much, Irith! It took a long time, but I hope the wait was worth it. I'm going to lock this thread now and will make that a practice going forward so that we all don't get confused by having two threads on the same topic open on different parts of the board. Dawn
