I have an online friend, a musician and woodworker, who made a cigar box lyre. That is cool! I made a box banjo with Whitman's Sampler box, once, to be different. It is only a "wall hanger". Brad

I love thread drift too, but some frown upon it. Fortunately, no one here does! Cat, I don't know how he did the lacquer work, but it is very nearly perfect. He told me that one of his customers bought a box to keep all of her remote controls in. I think that's a very good use for it, but I'd be afraid that all the remotes sliding around in there would mar or scuff the lacquer finish. Which is better - to put it on display, beautiful yet useless or to put it to a practical good use, perhaps slightly becoming slightly beat up but still beautiful? I have seen musical instruments made out of cigar boxes; that is an excellent way to utilize them. Funny just how attractive and useful those cigar boxes are. Dawn

I have nearly finished my second “not as extreme” oval pendent. I took what the torch gave me without totally blowing out a side. I like. But wonder what something in between the first one and the second one might look like? what say you or favor? My first one, the second one, or think you might prefer something in between? Brad side a on top. Side b on bottom

It's hard to say that I prefer one. The "full" one is rustic, but more conventional. The one on the right is definitely martial. At another time, I might have said the one of the left is more feminine, but in times of cosplay and women standing their ground and letting out their wild side, this wouldn't work anymore. So I'll just say they speak to different people.

I do like the results you achieved on the new one, nicely done. I think you could push the envelope just a bit more and get a more extreme result yet still keep the oval shape, just stop before you go as far as you did with the first one. I also think that the first one has some real possibilities too. Lots to explore here. Dawn

Wow, what an interesting thread! Brad, this is a very cool accident. I really like the result. In certain moods, I would definitely wear this.

I had a friend who smoked cigars and gave me the cigar boxes to keep various jewelry components in them. I still keep them. But I didn't like it when he entered my studio smoking them....
