It has been a while, but while wire weaving is still out at the moment, knitting still works as you can see The blue pearls I have used are no great quality which is not as visible packed away in wire.

It is very smart of you to use the pearl and "hide" the not so great quality in this knitted basket. Beautiful result.

That’s amazing! I can’t even imagine crocheting with wire. What gauge do you use? It looks like a real pirate booty. 😄

Thank you, Irith and Michelle! It just felt strange to throw them away, so in they went instead.
Michelle, I usually use 28 for the copper and 28 or 30 for silver, both for knitting and crocheting.
If I knit like in this case, I could also use a 26 or even 24 more easily, though. The piece will not be very flexible then, but you could use it as a base for something else, for example to weave other wire with beads in. It can kill your crochet hook very quickly, though, so I try to avoid that. I don't like using bigger crochet hooks, they feel awkward to me and I don't want to lose my trusted 1.65 mm which is pretty much the only one I use (after my 1.3 mm broke).
If I crochet, however, going with 26 is already difficult and the effect is not as nice. Beyond that, you could pretty much just do chain stitch because the wire is really hard on the hook and wrists.

Some years ago I made this one, smaller and more delicate. I remember how one lady asked if those were baby teeth in the pendant! I was speechless. Why would I do something like that and try to sell it?

I keep my daughter's baby teeth in a tiny box with my jewelry until today

I've heard that before, Irith, but if I had a child, why would I keep its teeth and then use them, and if I don't, where would the teeth come from??

That's beautiful, Cat, and what a great way to use up those pearls! I love the shape of it; reminds me of some of the Indian baskets I've seen in museums. People are weird like that sometimes. Just yesterday, when I was taking my walk, this guy asked me for money. I told him I didn't have any money on me. He then asked me to buy him a beer. I'm like, "Dude, if I don't have any money, why would you ask me to buy you a beer??" Dawn

Thank you, Dawn!
Yes, really weird. Yesterday we got a question at work. To create an account, you either need a personal ID card or you need a passport and a confirmation of residence because the passport (usually) has no address. The person wrote that they had read that and didn't have a personal ID card. So was it enough if they brought a passport or would they need a confirmation of residence with that? What?? Do they think we put that in our TOU for fun? I'll never stop shaking my head. By the way, of course it had said in the description that there were pearls in there, but we also know that people don't like to read, lol.

Do you think I am wierd because I keep my daughter's baby teeth? ....OK...I don't keep the teeth to make jewelry with it. No No! I keep it because it reminds me of how short life is. I look at the teeth and remember what a sweet little thing she was. I think "only yesterday she was a baby, and look at her now"....

I don't think that because you are not the first person I've heard that from, Irith. I would not even think it is weird if you made a locket for one, for example. I would definitely think you are weird if you tried to sell them to somebody else, though.

Just to let you know:
There is jewelry I've made which I would never sell, but keep and wear by myself from time to time, or give to my daughter or other women in my family.
I dislike jewelry which is made of bones or teeth or animal skulls etc..so I would definitely not do it myself!

Of course there is, we all do that, don't we? Sometimes they are pieces that we make because we want them and sometimes we just can't part with something we made

I've known a lot of people who keep their children's baby teeth or a lock of their hair. It's a sweet memento of when they were so little and innocent. You all may remember the pendant I made out of a horse's tooth. That was commissioned by a woman who had a horse with a bad tooth and the vet removed it. She wanted it as a memento of her beloved horse. Once I cleaned it up and polished it, the tooth was quite beautiful and she was very happy with what I made for her. I don't think I've ever worn jewelry made of teeth or bone, but I have worn jewelry made of shells. Dawn
