Ok, don't laugh. But our band used to play in "Stumpwater" played all types of traditional genre music. Mostly Southern Appalachian Old Time music, where I was the banjo player. Well, when we would play Traditional Bayern German music-didn't need no banjo. So, I built a teufelsgeige, or the devil's stick. I painted the bodhran that I mounted as well. This thing got heavy. It was played by bouncing it up and down (in rhythm) to clang the cymbal on top while using the drum stick at the same time on all the other stuff I mounted on the pole. No matter how hard I played, I could not drown out the accordion player. Brad closeup Our German Persona

Brad, has anyone told you lately what an interesting person you are? Love that you have a curiosity about the world and like to learn new things. Not only that, but you seem to do them all well. Love the photos. Now I get the picture you've posted in your profile (can not for the life of me think of what that's called right now). No laughing here. No sir. Cat is going to LOVE this! Dawn

How fun, Brad! I admit that I am not a fan of traditional Bavarian music, but this is really cool (especially because there are no lederhosen ), even more so because you made the devil's stick yourself. While I have seen that kind of instrument before, I never knew its history or even name in German, so I looked it up which was really interesting. I'm with Dawn on this. I love what you bring to the forum, it's always a surprise!

I have never heard of the devil’s stick before. That is totally awesome. And so pretty! Now I need to do some research!

Devilstick. WOW! It looks like you could produce many sound effects with it. I wonder how it is when you play it. Especially when you are in a band. Do you have a recording we could listen to?

I do not have any recordings of when we were doing the Bayern/Bavarian stuff. I know my arm wore out after a few tunes. Brad
