You know my Etsy shop has been empty for a long time, but I got the email about Etsy Payments all the same and thought maybe someone who has already set it up could tell about the experiences with it, so others can decide what they think about this. Now I don't like being forced to do something in general which was one reason I stopped selling things on eBay for example. If I'm a paying customer by way of the fees I pay, I think I should be able to decide about those things myself. That's just my opinion, though, which is why I thought it could be an interesting discussion for the forum

Personally it doesn't bother me as I already had my shop set up with direct payments and I love that feature. Other people have posted problems they've had with direct payments (now Etsy payments), but I've never had any problems with it. I'm not a big seller over there, but I'd say 90% of my sales go through direct payment/etsy payments. I think they could have been less heavy handed the way they went about announcing it. This change should have been announced months ago in order to give people time to get used to the idea. To just come out and say, "hey your shop will be closed in a month if you don't do this" just doesn't sit well. But, every time there is a change over there, the forums light up like a Christmas tree with people complaining/protesting/threatening to leave and then a few weeks go by and they all settle down again. Unless sellers want to set up their own websites, they are going to have to adapt to whatever policies/changes their host makes. If they leave and go somewhere else, they'll run into the same problems. Look at all the fiascos that took place over at Artfire during the years. Do you find the same thing happens on Zibbet, Cat? It's always somethin' Dawn

The only two problems that I have had with Zibbet so far is that my pictures look a little blurry on my website (but fine in the marketplace itself) and that it's not known enough. I wish it was because I really like it. They just introduced something for credit cards, but you don't have to use it.
I'm fine with changes, I mean after Zibbet moved to a new server there were some problems for a while, but I don't like the way some hosts announce them or how much earlier they do that. I had the same thing at DaWanda a while ago which is why I let the items there run out now.

HATE it. I signed up for Etsy payment yesterday, but am not happy about it. I love paypal and having my money in one place. I have a paypal debit card that I use when buying supplies. Since etsy payment is the default setting when you checkout, most people will choose Etsy payment. That means I won't have paypal funds. I guess I can transfer money from my bank account to paypal, but that's just an extra step.
Etsy's track record with bugs in their checkout isn't exactly stellar. I rarely read the Etsy forums unless there is something like this going on. Evidently last Christmas season, there was an issue with people not being able to check out with direct checkout that lasted several days. Not having 24 hr phone support is an issue too. Whenever I have any questions with paypal, I can call and get an immediate answer.
I think eventually Etsy will phase out paypal and only offer Etsy checkout. If you think the sellers are upset about this, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

I totally agree about not having 24 hour phone support. I don't get that at all; every big business has phone support these days.
Michele, you are a much higher volume seller than I and I very much respect your opinions on all things Etsy. It could be that because I've had so few sales, my experience has been positive. I also don't care about using Paypal funds to buy supplies, because I keep all of my funds (Paypal and Etsy)in a checking account that has a debit card.
It's too bad they couldn't allow for both and keep their sellers happy, but I suppose they want to keep those processing fees.
