So many members ask how to increase sales at shows and fairs. Well, here's how to decrease them quickly: keep your cell phone in your hand and constantly check your messages, etc. I came across a seller who had a kumihimo piece so I asked about it. Apparently their messages were really important and I got no response. The only excuse I can think of is the girl was tending the booth for a friend. (Looks like the seller needs another friend.)
By the way I bought a couple pairs of earrings from another seller. She was definitely talented. So I plugged this community!

;D I think some people have no idea how off-putting that is!

To make your cell phone a priority, is bad manners everywhere. When one of our users stands at the counter talking on the phone or doing whatever with it, I go help someone else. I don't care if I exactly know what s/he wants, if the phone is more important at that moment, who am I to "interrupt"? It's the same if two people keep on talking. This is really a pet peeve of mine. Also the art of saying Hello or - gasp - Thank you is dying out with some people, I constantly have to fight the urge to hit them with a book

Ding dangity cell phones and the people who are addicted to them drive me nuts! Good for you for not buying anything from that vendor, Sue. And, Cat...I don't usually advocate violence, but have to admit I get a giggle from the mental image of you clobbering someone with a book! Dawn

Oh I hear you! My step-son, on the rare occassions he deigns to visit us, spends all his time with his phone in his hand. I fight the urge to shove it somewhere.
I have been to events where the sellers are too busy talking to their helper to bother with a 'hello' or 'can I show you something'? It's as if they're not really bothered if they sell anything!
In any business 'customer service'- whatever that entails, should be paramount.

This has become the me, me , me, I, I, I society. They always come first in their mind and everyone else has to wait. It goes back to the teaching of manners. I was taught proper manners at home and in grade school, but mostly from my mother. I still follow those teachings 60 years later. Manner instructions should be mandatory when kids are young, not wait until they are in college or in the business world. Did you guess this is one of my pet peeves.
