I guess I must be doing something wrong because people who I've taught to make jewelry are selling their pieces like crazy a former friend just made $228 (profit) at a very tiny open market that barely had any people coming through.
When I set up at a faire I sold $15 dollars worth of jewelry (so basically only a couple of dollars in profit).
She got 6 or 7 pieces put in a shop on consignment and sold all in a week! When I had my pieces in a consignment store I didn't sell a single one!
She has an online shop (although I don't have the link but its a sub domain like mine, not an etsy or artfire shop) and she gets sales every month. And mom and I haven't had anything but one commission from work.
This isn't the only one either. I feel sad and defeated and that's why I have posted anything lately until last night. I don't know what I can do differently to boost sales. I have business cards, wear my creations, all of it but still nothing.
How to you advertise and what generates the best sales for you?

Zili, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else. Sometimes I think it's the luck of the draw. Maybe your friend at the market is a good salesman.
I don't do any of the things people say you have to do to sell. I'm not on facebook or twitter and I don't advertise.
I sell on both etsy and artfire - same stuff. I do pretty well on etsy but have very few sales on artfire.
All I can say, is keep creating and hopefully, you'll find a venue that works for you.

Zili, I hear you. I used to work in a bead store that also sold beaded jewelry, and it's hard to tell what people will go for. We once created a hideous necklace patterned after one we saw in Bead Style, as a joke, and put it in the window. Imagine our surprise when someone actually bought the thing!

I don't pretend to have any idea what people like. I know what I like and it doesn't seem to resonate with the masses.
Selling jewelry can be a mystery. Who knows why one person gets lots of sales and the other doesn't? A lot of it has to do with marketing. You have to get your name out there, any way you can. I'm thinking of standing on a street corner, wearing one of those sandwich boards. The more you market yourself, the better your chances.

I wish I knew, Zili. I get comments on my work, but don't sell much. There are moments when I am really frustrated, but then I get back on the horse and keep going.

I have the same as Cat, lots of ooh's and ash's but sales .................... none! Every now and then I sell something, Like you Zilli I haven't shown a lot lately. Maybe I have to put more items for sale in my shop.
