I have sold in the past through a shop and had a small website but gave up to finish my uni studies. Now that is all finished I am hoping to get up and running again this year but was wondering what people recommend..IE FB.....Ebay....etsy.... etc.... What are your experiences of online selling.

Etsy is still the biggest one around, no doubt. I'm not keen on it myself, for several reason, but I have a small shop there to mark the territory, so-to-speak, after someone used the name Cat's Wire in their shop description.
Zibbet has a great community, but unfortunately it can't attract customers like Etsy does. I have views, but no sales. My shop will stay there as I have a lifetime account and I'm stubborn.
I would never use German eBay for selling my jewelry, but I think it's a little different in the UK. I know a few sellers who still use it, but also some who left it because there's the "cheap" mentality. Many people come to eBay to find bargains.
Not everyone does it, but my FB page helped me along. There are several apps which bring your Etsy, ArtFire, Zibbet, whatever shop to your page.
I'm still thinking about a website of my own eventually. If you ask me, however, where I am making the big business, I have to say it's about the same everywhere (and not exactly big ;-) ).

I haven't made any serious attempt to sell on etsy or any of the other similar platforms, but my research is telling me it's better to have my own web site. That's where I'm headed.

Caroline, there are pros and cons for all of the online venues. You have to look at them all and decide which one best suits you.
I sell on etsy and artfire. I've had far greater success on etsy, but etsy is not for everyone.
