First, I want to those that guided me on this Mother’s Day gift for Marilyn. To recap from WIP Forum, this was made from 18 ga GF wire wrapped on 6 ga SS half-round wire. I worked with what I had in stock. (I should remember what pattern I used, but don’t) Anytime I start beating on a soldered joint, I have big-time anxiety. They held, yeaaaa! Brad

Nice job on that bracelet, Brad! I really like the addition of the wire weaving. What a lovely Mother's Day gift; Marilyn will love it. Dawn

Marilyn loves her new bracelet. After a bit of wheel polishing the contrast of gold and silver “pops.” I did some slightly adjusting on fit, but now have a master tracing of the cuff fit she desires. Btw, those of you who work with gold filled metals, how careful do I need to be when buffing on a high speed wheel? Thank you, brad

I would not use buffing on GF jewelry. Buffing should be done before adding the GF metal. Soap and warm water with a very soft tooth brush should do.

I agree with Irith. While GF has a much thicker coating than plated metal, it is still a coating that could be removed with enough time and friction. Dawn

Luckily I was very tentative, buffing the GF wire with only one pass, and very little pressure. I will not do it again. Thanks, Brad

I think if you clean it gently every now and then, you'll be able to maintain the result you achieved through buffing. And, I think you're fine having done it the one time the way you've described; it sounds like you were very gentle. Dawn

I like this entree to possibilities and varieties. Using round base wire, using smaller gauge wrapping wire, using different spacings and number of wrapping wire segments, trying this with 3 base wires. For now, Marilyn is enjoying her new bracelet and I am enjoying a bit of a break. Brad

OhOh...sounds like you've been bitten by the wire bug! Truly, there are so many possibilities and the challenge of working with wire successfully is quite satisfying. Once you feel comfortable with round wire, you may want to explore working with half round or square. Enjoy this new venture! Dawn

Dawn Hmmm, are saying you can get 18 ga or smaller half round wire, as well? Brad

Absolutely beautiful, Brad! I’m so glad the soldered joints held! I’m not surprised that Marilyn was so happy with it.
