Hello, It's been a bit since I had some time to get back and see if anyone has some advice for me. I am making a chainmail necklace for a friend of mine. But I started out with an already completed bracelet that I had made quite a few years ago, and gave it to her for Christmas, with the stipulation that I would modify it into a necklace as she doesn't wear bracelets. My dilemma, there is a spiral hook I made for the clasp and I can't find or remember where I got the wire to make it. I would like to make another connection or hook for the opposite side and extend the chainmail on either side in a smaller gauge to lengthen it. Adding some photos of the bracelet and the spiral swan hook that I need to replicate, if I can find the wire. ok... I am going to have to figure out how to add photos.. I'll figure it out in a bit

atabby, to post a photo from your computer files, click on "reply" at the top right. Once you do that, you'll see a box in the upper right that says, "add attachment". When you click on that a window will open that will allow you to browse your computer, choose a photo and then insert it into your post. Make sure your cursor is where you want the photo to show up. Photo size should be no larger than 1000 pixels and sometimes that's a little too big. If you're posting from flickr or somewhere else that has given the photo a URL, you can simply click on "reply" and then the link symbol (looks like a globe) and that will allow you to insert the URL. Then click post or insert or whatever it says. If you have any questions, just ask and one us will try to help you. Dawn

Thank you!! I had the size on my camera to large. I haven't had to take pics. in a long time so I forgot pretty much everything. I reset the camera and got a picture to post in my op. I found some wire that worked on Fire Mountain Gems. The necklace is done I just have to get the dremel out and smooth out the ends of the swan clasps and then run the whole thing thru the tumbler with shot. It's been years since I did any jewelry making. Now I have another something planned.

Thank you! Yesterday I took all the pearls off and then found my tumbler and shot that has not been used for years, got everything set up and tumbled the whole piece for more than an hour, it came out super shiny and much smoother. Added the pearls back and and gave it to my friend last evening. She loved it. I don't think I every said what all the components were, bright al. rings, opalite glass bead, rutilated prehnite beads and freshwater oval pearls. I've made another br al. chain and have some dyed green tiger eye beads that I'm thinking about adding to a chain in drops spaced with pearls. I'll be back

Thank you, I like the penguin pendant. Did you paint it yourself? Atabby

I am not surprised that your friend loved the necklace and I'm looking forward to seeing the next necklace at Show & Tell!

I'm not surprised either. It's really nicely done. Yes, please do stick around; we'd love to have you join us. Thank you so much; yes I did paint it. The pendant measures about 1.75 inches x 1 inch. It found a home with a penguin loving teen girl. Dawn

Nice work on the necklace. I am a bit of a dummy when it comes to wire work, so I have a question. I see you have 3 "swan" clasps-as you called them. Is the purpose of that to be able to where it as a necklace-and a bracelet? Brad

Nice work on the necklace. I am a bit of a dummy when it comes to wire work, so I have a question. I see you have 3 "swan" clasps-as you called them. Is the purpose of that to be able to where it as a necklace-and a bracelet? Hi Brad, Thank you I didn't specifically make the necklace to be interchangeable, from one to the other, but it could be!! Would just involve working the extension clasp off the jump ring. My friend just never wears bracelets so when I found this bracelet in a stash of completed but unsold jewelry I knew she (friend) would like the colors. I didn't have anymore prehinite beads so tried to come up with a way to extend the length into a necklace. She always wears a necklace. I gave her the bracelet for Christmas and told her I would remake it into something she would wear. I was originally going to exclude the swan clasp and use a lobster claw but Mary really liked the clasp on it. And didn't want to exchange for a lobster claw. So I incorporated two more as the extensions. They look pretty cruddy in the picture. They did shine up and looked a lot better after being tumbled for a couple of hours. I also had to use nickel silver rather then bright aluminum for the clasps because I couldn't find any bright aluminum 18 or 16 gauge wire sturdy enough to keep the shape.

Ah that is so nice it found a good home! It's lovely! I used to do a lot of rock painting a while back and incorporated some painted flatish pebbles into necklaces. Mostly cats and some lions.
