I am about to compete a silver and copper cuff. It is 1-1/2" wide copper and 1/2"+ wide silver layer with hammered texture. It is slightly synclastic as well. I still need to final polish, and decide if I want to give the copper a patina, either fire-patina or darkened a bit with liver of sulfur. I am a bit concerned about losing my sweat soldering with heat. Brad

Absolutely gorgeous, Brad. I love the shiny copper, but I can also picture how beautiful it would be with a patina. Copper that has been fire colored is so gorgeous when done right. I'm completely undecided on which would be the best way to go, but I have confidence that whatever you decide will be perfect! Dawn

* (first, an ettiquette/customary question: If we post a project in the "work in progress" do you prefer posting the final piece in this section, or prefer to post the final version in show and tell. For now I will follow the practice of leaving my final version.) I enjoy the suggestions I receive as I make a new piece-which is often a prototype or learning a technique piece, as opposed to a first of several production pieces. Thank you, brad Since my wife is the recipient of most of what I do, I gave her the choice of leaving this cuff with no patina or finishing with an antique patina. She tends to like her copper "antique patina'd" so that is what I did on this one. Brad

Oh Brad, that is gorgeous!! I think it was definitely the right decision to give this a patina. Re your question, we are rather open with our rules in that regard. Sometimes our WIP threads have the finished item, sometimes the finished item is in S&T with or without a link in the WIP thread. Sometimes WIPs never get finished (I'm thinking of some of mine there )! My guess is that Show & Tell probably gets the most views also from visitors, but us few really active members usually go through all the threads

I hope this reply is not a repeat? I am not sure if there are delays for a reply to get posted on the thread, but some of my posts seem to disappear? Anyway, Thank you, for the kind comment. And the information, as I learn to navigate this site. I currently have no incomplete jewelry projects, but plenty of unstarted ideas. Brad

I see, Under the Quick Reply, I need to click the "post new reply" not the "reply." brad

Quick reply is if you just write into the box and then click "Post Quick Reply". If you click "Reply" on the right, it will take you to another box with all the options of quoting, adding pictures, editing, fonts, etc.

Well, I do love that patina - good decision on your part, Brad. It's absolutely gorgeous and your wife is lucky to have a husband who has the talent to make such lovely jewelry for her. As I mentioned in my first post, I really liked it shiny even though I am generally in the "give it a patina" camp. The thing is if it was left shiny, it's going to eventually develop a patina anyway (unless one is diligent about polishing and I'm not that person). Giving it a patina allowed you to control the process which tends to result in a more uniform look rather than the randomness of natural patinas. Regarding your etiquette question, I'll add my two cents even though Cat has already addressed your question. Where to post the finished piece is entirely up to you. You can post it in your work in progress thread here, over at Show and Tell or you can do both. I kind of like to see the finished piece in the original thread as that is a nice way to wrap up the topic, but posting at Show and Tell will get a lot more attention. I tend to post the finished piece in both forums as not everyone frequents some of the other forums, but pretty much all of the people here look at S&T. Our only real etiquette policy is that if people are going to post their work at S&T expecting comments, that they take the time to comment on the work of others as well. That, and be kind. If people want critiques of their work, they can post at the critique board; S&T is not the place for critiques or criticisms. I am glad you joined our site, Brad. You have been a really positive addition and I hope that you enjoy your time here as well. As far as unfinished projects go - yep, I'm guilty too! Dawn
