This week's Oldies but Goodies Theme Challenge is HEAVYWEIGHTS. You don't have to weigh your items just show us what you think are your heavy ones. Go through your stash and post a picture in this thread that pertains to the theme. It can be something you made yesterday or something you made five years ago. We encourage you to post as many items as you want. Can't make it much simpler. We hope to see a lot of creative pics of your HEAVYWEIGHT jewelry. We'd love to have more members participate in this easy, fun challenge. Won't you join us? The Oldies but Goodies Challenges will last two weeks, so you have enough time to share your items! To make it easier, the end date is in the subject now.

Good job getting us started, Cat. Those are some awesome heavyweights and I'm not talking about how much they weigh! Love that cuff - those are the dragon beads, I think? Dawn

Thank you, Dawn! The dagger beads, yes. The octopus is living in Australia now. He was a special challenge because the client asked for specific measurements and a specific number of agate beads, so I really had to control those tentacles!

Australia sounds like a great place for an octopus to live! Good on you for getting those tentacles under control; I'll bet your client was thrilled with that piece! Dawn

Here are some of my heavyweights: This one was a commissioned piece. The client had a horse who lost a tooth and she wanted a pendant made from the tooth. When she gave it to me, it still had bits of gum tissue attached, so I had to soak it in peroxide for about a week to loosen the tissue. I then scrubbed it really well and after polishing it with my dremel, it was quite beautiful. A few years ago, our monthly challenge was to make jewelry out of zippers. I was really pleased with how this turned out: I'm including this one because besides netting the stone, I made the bar that it's attached to. I hammered one end, added the beads and then hammered the other end. Getting the second end hammered flat without hitting the beads with the hammer was challenging and I breathed a sigh of relief when it was successfully completed. And, this one (made from river rocks) is actually heavy! Dawn

He's an old friend from the early Plurk days - the Australian, not the octopus - and I was thrilled he wanted me to make it for him!

Cat, I admire your ability to create such octopuses. I am sure your Australian friend likes it a lot! I really love the bracelet.
Dawn, Very nice ideas for heavy weights. I love the zipper necklace very much.

Some of mine: Prehnite and Jasper beads necklace. Chrysoprase, Tourmaline and rainbow Moonstone with one of my flowers in a large pendant necklace: These earrings are a little heavy (6.5 grams each). Next time I will try to make them without the "bezel".

Thank you, Irith!
Dawn, I still think that the horse tooth pendant is such a cool and unique piece. I also really like the rock pendant for its natural look.
Irith, what a pity that the earrings are a little heavy, they are definitely my favorite because the stones look so beautiful together in that bezel! Would smaller stones/beads with a bezel be another solution to deal with the weight?

Thank you, Irith and Cat! Gorgeous work as always, Irith. My favorite is the pendant with the flower (second photo). I just love that piece as it is so representative of your unique style. And, I do mean unique in a good way! Dawn

Thank you very much Cat and Dawn.
Cat, to make the earrings lighter, I know of a way to make them without the bezel and in the back I will saw a round hole in the metal under the Labradorite stone. I believe this will reduce the weight considerably.
Besides - I know of people who don't mind heavier earrings. I have a customer whom, in spite of my telling her that the earrings will be heavy, she insists on my making them the way she wants. Well, they say that the customer is always right, so who am I to judge?

Well ladies, nothing like waiting until the last minute. So many beauties here.
Cat I love all of these pieces. It’s truly difficult for me to choose favorite as they are all beautifully done. But I do have an affection for octopi! Dawn, the horse tooth necklace is so unique. And, I love the necklace with bar hammered at the ends. What a cool idea! All of your pieces are just lovely. Irith, amazing work all around. My two favorites are the first two necklaces.

Here are my “heavyweights:” Amazonite: This necklace was so heavy a breeze could undo the magnetic clasp. I’ve since changed it to three strand necklace: My first multi-strand necklace: Amethyst Steampunk Earrings
