The base of my beloved Lortone has been running hot for quite a while and I am afraid something needs doing. I can't find just the base part and don't want to buy a completely new one when just the motor isless than half the price. Has anyone changed their's?

I see no-one has responded. Have you contacted Lortone about this? I bet they'll know what to do.

(Smacks head with hand! Quite frankly, am getting tired with hitting head, hand is getting tired...) The directions on one site say you need to splice a new power cord and I'm not sure if I want to do that. Never thought of contacting Lortone themselves. DUH!!!

Changing electrical cords can be pretty easy when they're screwed on at the appliance end. I cut the outlet end of an extension cord off, match up which contact goes with the wide blade on the plug, and Bob's your uncle. I've updated many a lamp that way.

Boy, Andrea, is my face red! I did contact Lortone and they told me the motor is designed to run hot. So I finally got around to taking a look at the machine thinking I should probably oil the rollers again. They had gunk on them. It turned out to be rubber from the barrel. Apparently, somehow, one of the rollers got slightly out of place and was "pinching" the barrel as it revolved. No wonder things got hot. I fixed things, oiled again, and it runs much better now.

Glad you figured it out, Sue! Off topic, but I got to get me one of those things one of these days. Dawn
