It has almost been a year since I made my last doll outfit. This weekend I felt a sudden urge to start another one, making it a wedding dress had different reasons, one of them being that I knew I had enough of the pearly white seed beads in both sizes. Gotta be practical, too As I wrote in Chit Chat, Dawn has several problems, mostly her legs which is the reason for the slim skirt part. I winged everything else as usual. The skirt is very long to hide the biggest part of the clone shoes she's wearing. At first I tried to glue some small beads on, but that didn't make the shoes any prettier. An online friend of mine used to make beautiful polymer clay roses. I once gave a small bouquet of those to a rose lover. I wish I kept one for myself, it would have been perfect for her.

Ohhhhhh... She is exquisite - simply perfect in every way. I just love your dolls, Cat. Your attention to detail is amazing. They should be on display in a museum or an art gallery. Dawn

Oh, my! That is just beautiful!
I agree with Dawn. A public exhibition is in order.

Thank you so much, Dawn and Carole! This one took me two days with two Swedish crime/drama shows running in the background. I didn't watch news, I only checked my emails and wasn't online otherwise. I talked on the phone once a day. I fully concentrated on bead by bead and it felt great. What I'm trying to say is that once I get into the flow of things with the dolls, they are probably the projects that satisfy me the most. I just really have to feel the motivation to start. On Facebook I said that it's easier to make dresses for them than finding clothes for myself. They don't have to wear something I could or maybe even would myself The only place I could think of would be our local museum, but with the area once being famous for wooden toys, I doubt they'd go for Barbies, lol!

I was thinking more along the lines of the Smithsonian... Dawn

I wouldn't kid about something like this, Cat! I think you could become the world famous beaded doll dressmaker cat lady and we'll all say we knew you when you were one of the little people. Dawn

I could ask about donating one to the Museum of Beadwork in Portland that is supposed to open up this year. They want a third-party appraisal, though, and I have no idea how I would go about something like that.

I actually think that is a wonderful idea, Cat. How would you feel about parting with one of your dolls? I was just looking at their website, and in my opinion, your work is superior to what I saw posted. I may be a bit biased, but I honestly believe what I've just typed. If you were to contact the museum about donating one of your dolls or maybe loaning one of your dolls would be better as that would allow you to retain ownership, I imagine someone on the staff there could tell you how to go about getting a third party appraisal. I have a friend who has a husband who appraises paintings. I wonder if he knows anyone who could do an appraisal? See what you've started here? Dawn

I honestly don't know how I would feel, Dawn. I think if I made one specifically for the purpose, it might be easier, but it probably depends on the outcome and how happy I'm with it. Someone in the Topper doll group on FB asked if I sell and my first thought was that I wouldn't even know how to price them if I did.
Just the other day I sold one of my favorite HeatherCat bracelets to someone I don't know except for short messages on FB, and although I know that's something I can make again, it did feel a little strange while with other pieces I sell happily if I know people like them.

I understand. That's why so many of my pieces have ended up staying with me; I just couldn't bring myself to list them. Dawn

I have been much worse at the beginning, though. It was like giving my babies away, lol!

Ha. So much for giving my babies away. The lady in the Dawn group put down a deposit for me to make an outfit for one of my Dawns. She's giving me free rein on design, colors, and accessories which made it hard for me to quote a price. So once I can tell where the outfit is going and how much it is going to be, she can either say she wants her or if it's too much for her, she gets her deposit back and I keep the doll which I don't mind. Much easier than with custom jewelry!

Thank you, Dawn! As mentioned in today's daily thread, I sent the photos and am now waiting for an answer back. I will blog about her once I know the answer and also share pictures here then.
