Wanted to give you guys another progress report. Lath installation is finished! The triangular area above the lath wall is where the future mural will be painted. Where the lath ends, you can see that strip of dark paint. That's the crooked spot where the wall meets the ceiling. It's not actually the house that is crooked; it's the sheet rock that was put on after the wall was framed in. My plan is to paint down to the top of the lath in the ceiling color. No one will ever be able to tell that it's not straight there. which reminds me; Cat thank you for telling us what sheet rock/drywall is called in Germany. I thought it was interesting that it became known by the brand name. Using Keenex was a good example. I also remember that Xerox was one of the first copy machines produced and for the longest time people would say they were going to make a Xerox regardless of the brand of machine they were going to actually use. Meanwhile, while hubby was installing the lath, I was busy preparing the baseboards. Again, not sure what that would be called in other countries. It's the trim that goes where the walls and floor meet. I started out with pine boards which I stained. I had a walnut stain which was dark brown and a cedar stain which was quite red. I didn't like either, so I experimented with mixing the two colors. I ended up with a color that was 5 tablespoons of walnut and 3 tablespoons of cedar. It was exactly the right amount to stain the three boards. After staining, I put two coats of clear satin sealer on. That's where the room currently stands. We are going back home tomorrow and on Tuesday, I will apply the first coat of clear satin sealer to the lath. One Wednesday, I plan to lightly sand the wall and apply a second coat. That should be enough, but if I think it needs it, I will put a third coat of satin on. After all this work, I don't mind doing a little bit more to make it feel really nice and smooth. Hubby has already done the additional electrical outlets. Cat, I counted wrong, there were already three outlets, not two. Now there are five. The last thing will be to put the baseboard trim down and then I should be ready to move in. Oh, and I don't know if any of your remember the blue door I used as a work bench, but that will be installed too. I plan to paint it after I make a decision about the orange paint, but I want it up now so I can work. Not only will I have a studio, but we'll get our bedroom back too. Can't wait! Dawn

Thank you so much, ladies! We moved all the big heavy stuff in over the weekend and I'm now unpacking boxes. Opening them and seeing what is inside is kind of like finding long lost friends. I will post pics of the finished room after I get things organized and tidy. Even though I haven't made jewelry yet, I love spending time in this cozy little room! Dawn

In such a nice cozy room I would love just to spend time with or without making new jewelry:) I suppose it will be very inspiring to work in it.

Looking good. Lighting for a craft room takes much consideration. (shadows-argghhh) I seem never to have enough, for sure. My projects tend to be messy, so I am stuck in the basement. We have third floor in our 1912 home as well. We are hopefully going to create a music conservatory and media room with the main larger room. Like you, even though we have lived there since 1977, there is always money to be spent elsewhere. And, I need to get the pool table out of the third floor-and out of the house. it was fun to have when I was 30! Brad

Thank you, Brad! I was just thinking that I'm way overdue posting updates. The lath is so beautiful after three coats of satin finish; it really brought out the colors and the grain. I'll get to that soon. I'm actually pretty much moved in now, but still have some organizing to do and I'm not sure about the current configuration. There are probably some items I could get rid of, but am hanging on to for now. Ha! We had the same situation with a pool table only it was in our living room. First thing people saw when they walked in the front door. When we moved to the mountains in 1993, it had to find a new home. Dawn

I have been thinking about getting rid of at least one pinball machine. On the other hand, the cats love them.

Have you made a decision about the pinball machines, Cat? Do the kitties like to lay on them or do they like to try to catch the little balls inside? Dawn

Ladies, I'm happy to tell you that I finally found a rug I liked and I ordered it today. It looked great in the photos, although some of the reviews mentioned that there was a lot of blue in the rug. I hope there isn't too much, but I'll see when it arrives. If the rug looks as nice as I think it will, I will be showing you photos of the finished studio soon! Dawn
