So, I tried this new method of locking down a cabochon. And I’m very pleased with how the beaded netting came came out. Happy dance!

Thanks so much, Cat! I’m having a little trouble getting my peyote stitch to looks as good as I’d like. I’m not exactly sure what the issue is. Anyway, I decided to try something different. I can’t claim credit for the idea though. I saw it in a book.

Michelle, in my opinion round cabs are the easiest and oval cabs still easier than rectangular ones or drops to bezel with peyote because you don't have real corners or tips to deal with where you have to decrease in the last rows. I don't know if that's what you mean because I can't really see a problem on your cab, but I can imagine that that's what you mean. Does the last row kind of stand up a little bit? Another thing is that the transition is smoother if you use Delicas in the next to last row and 15s in the last row. Maybe you can see the difference here. First one without Delicas, second one with them.

Thanks for the help, Cat. I have two issues. Sometimes, the thread is showing too much on the last row. And also, the place where I step up from one row to the next can look wonky. I am using 15’s in the last row, but haven’t used Delicas. So maybe that is contributing. And I’m guessing the rectangular shape of the dichroic glass is a problem. I’m in bed at the moment, but I will take a picture tomorrow so you can see what I’m talking about.

I think the thread issue has to do with the Delicas, you can tell from my first picture that the thread does show more.

Okay, we’ll then I guess I’ll be ordering delicas!

I think they would definitely help, but in this case it may also have to do with mixing 15s and 11s in the last row - if I see that right.
What about the wonky step up? Do you have an even number of beads in the row?

Thanks, Cat! Yes there are an even number of beads. It occurs to me that I may be pulling the thread too tight in order to try to correct the thread showing problem. I and yes, it’s a mix of 11s and 15s. I watched a video that showed it being done that way. Do you use only 15s? Or do the 11 & 15 mix, then do another row of just 15s?

If you put in a row of size 11 Delicas, you won't have to pull so hard because in size they are between the 11s and 15s seed beads.
Another possibility might be to add one more row of size 11 seed beads, but skip some of the beads and thus decrease in the corners for shaping the bezel better before going to the 15s.
I have never used a mix of 15s and 11s in the last row myself, so I don't have any experience with that at all. I have just used mixes to embellish the rows on top for a more organic look in asymmetrical pieces, for example.

Ohhh! I had no idea that size 11 Delicas were smaller. Good to know. On the other piece that I putting the netting on, I used a mix of 11s and 15s on the row before the netting just to fill in the space and draw it a bit tighter. Although it looked really symmetrical and well-shaped, the beads weren’t acting like it. And that did work well. I think with our discussion, you may have solved both of my problems! Thank you!
I think I’m going to redo the last row on the dichroic glass, but I need order some Delicas first.

11 seed beads are 2.2 mm (although we all know how much they can vary in size, also depending on the colors), Delicas are 1.6 mm x 1.5 mm and 15 seed beads are 1.5 mm x 1.3 mm. That's what I meant by smoother transition, you go down in size bit by bit. I know you can hardly see the difference in the picture. I guess the different shapes also have an effect on it.

I can see how those little differences in size can make a huge difference though. The jump from seed bead 11s to 15s always seemed like a big jump to me. So I’m really happy to find something in between.
