On Facebook I have called this a UFB, an unidentified flying bug. I can't even say why I shaped the wings this way, it is not inspired by anything which I really just noticed when I had already started. I wasn't sure if I should even finish it and made the dragonfly instead, but then I thought why not, that's artistic freedom and used some more of my bugle stash. It gave me another idea (for which I'm searching the supplies I have mentioned in the daily thread) and then another idea and now I want to use all my bugles that have been waiting for so long and make a whole bug family

It's beautiful! I think your artistic license has resulted in a beautiful bug that anyone would be proud to wear. It reminds me of some of the big moths we have here. They have the same widet body and double sets of wings only your bug/moth is a lot prettier. Dawn

Cat, here's a pic of the type of moth your UFB makes me think of. And, while I'm here, I think you should do one of these. This is a ceanothus moth and are found as far north as British Columbia and as far south as parts of Mexico. They are so gorgeous and also have a 4 - 6 inch wing span. I once found a dead ceanothus on the sidewalk and used it as reference for a painted pendant, but I don't have any photos of it handy. Dawn

My mind probably vaguely thought of a moth because that's how I chose the body's shape and color, but not as elaborate of course. There are such beautiful moths! I had one sitting outside on my window the last two nights, I wonder if he's going to come back tonight. Not very big, white or maybe very light yellow. The ceanthus is gorgeous in his earthy colors! Oh, and thank you very much, Dawn

Thank you, Irith!
It's funny, I wasn't a fan of bead embroidery at all because the jewelry often looked so big, but now I'm really having fun with trying different things.
