Ammonites are not really perfect for bead embroidery because depending on their size they are noticeably higher at one end. I wanted to try it anyway by levelling the look out through adding lot of fringe for tentacles. I used lovely matte cubes, bugles and seed beads which were all in a surprise baggie order plus some seed beads from my stash (and from my sister's stash that I borrowed from her). The pendant needed a beaded chain as none of the ones I had really matched, luckily I had enough of the cubes (for which I hadn't had any idea before).

Beautifully done, Cat! I love the fringe; that was a great idea to give this piece balance. I have an ammonite sitting around and I never have been able to come up with a way I want to use it. Dawn

Thank you all! Dawn, I have a whole bunch of ammonites around, even two small ones for earrings that never happened. You know I already made a few variations and it's tough to always come up with something new. How about using yours in a netted bezel?

I've thought about netting it, Cat, but I'd like to come up with something different. Inspiration hasn't come to me yet, but I'm hoping one of these days the light bulb will come on. Dawn

Thank you, Gayle! Dawn, I'm sure you'll find something eventually. Sometimes it just takes a little longer (and sometimes years from my experience).

Beautiful and unusual way to show the Ammonite in your jewelry.
