I’m trying to figure out how to hold my beaded bezel in place while tightening and working in the thread. It’s a little tight, but slides around from one side to the other. Maybe a bit looser, with more rounds in the back, so it just drops in?

I think I'm "standing on the hose" right now as we call it in Germany Do you mean that the cab is moving inside the bezel?

Whenever I am making a bezel I always try to get the back really shaped in first so that your center piece can sit in it like a cup. I then hold it in place with my thumb while the front of the bezel is done. Does this make sense? There are also different stitches you can use, so it really is a case of playing and seeing what you like. A photo really would help. I can also give you some ideas once I have seen what you are playing with. x

After reading your description, Caroline, I think my bezel is just too tight. And I need to add more to the back. Of course, it probably wasn’t my brightest move to start with an oval and decorated cabochon. I have a rivoli around here somewhere....

I agree, Michelle, the bezel looks too tight although I don't think you would have a problem with the oval shape if it weren't. How did you measure your first row?
Good luck for your next attempt!

I think it looks a little tight as well, 2 more beads in the first row should do it. If the first row is a bit loose it does not really make a huge difference as you can pull it tight when decreasing the bead sizes for the back and front. Another little cheat I have used is to put a very thin piece of double sided tape around the edge of the cab to hold the beads a bit better.

Cat, I wrapped my initial row around the cab. It seemed a clumsy way to do it, so I’m open to suggestions.
Caroline, good to know that a tiny bit loose doesn’t hurt. I will add two beads.
3rd times the charm, I hope!
