Hi all,
My day job is in graphic design (been doing that for 10 years) but I've been interested in other creative endeavors on and off for quite some time. I'm in my early 30s. My fascination with beads started early. At age 5 a relative gave me a container of beads as a Christmas present. There's a home movie of me alone in my room on Christmas Eve sorting through them instead of hanging out in the living room with my family. Also, my maternal grandmother was very skilled at making beaded ornaments and all sorts of other things much more complex than I have ventured into. Still, I look back and can zero in on those two sources of inspiration. In my teens, I enjoyed a hobby of making hundreds of simple seed bead bracelets. I loved coming up with new colors combinations and patterns.
I took a very long break from any sort of jewelry making until a year ago when a couple of my coworkers expressed an interest. They had also dabbled in it before. Together, we started to reignite our desire to create. In August I opened my Etsy shop and have been working on my creative and technical skills. The technical part is a lot more challenging! I have so much to learn. I am blown away every time I look at "real" artisans' creations. I wonder how long it will take me to no longer consider myself an amateur! I make very simple jewelry using beads on headpins and eyepins, basically. My favorite is earrings. I also make some beaded bracelets (memory wire and strung) and necklaces as well cabuchon necklaces.
Hopefully that about sums it up. I made sure to read the Terms, but please excuse any questions I may have that are so painfully, obviously coming from someone who doesn't quite know what she's doing yet.
Thanks for having me!
