I haven't made much jewelry lately, but the Art Elements challenge with the topic "blue" made me get out a WIP that has been waiting to be finished for quite a while. I noticed that I have used blue almost exclusively in my last pieces! This lab cab broke because it had a crack, so I turned it into a fish after glueing. The beaded strip is hiding the crack. I have a bag of the ocean bead soup that a friend added to a parcel, but the blue seed beads were too irregular for a beaded rope and there weren't enough of the small green ones, so I incorporated them in a Herringbone chain of clear Twin Beads instead. No idea where to wear this, but of course it's not going into my shop because of the glued cab.

Oh, Cat. That is really stunning. What a great way to use the broken cab and I love the pearls randomly scattered throughout. I can't tell from the photo - are those strips of wire running diagonally across the cab or is that the natural pattern in the stone? You've made a little beaded painting and it is wonderful! Dawn

Thank you, Dawn! The cab is carved. Maybe you can see it in this WIP pic, I will not resize it, so it shows better.

Totally awesome! I’m sorry the cab broke, but great save!

Thank you, Michelle! I admit I was a little miffed at first, especially because the seller reacted more or less with a virtual shoulder shrug as if it was okay just because he's also selling wholesale (my order wasn't that big because it was my first order from him ... and my last, not that he'd notice). On the other hand it sparked my creativity in the end and I'm glad I didn't just throw it away. I have another broken cab (from a very nice seller who gave me a refund, she used to be a member here), maybe I will think of something for that one some day

Ah, I can see it now. Those carved lines are a perfect pattern for a fish body. This design was meant to be! And, I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to buy from that seller again. Depending on how strongly you feel about it, he might benefit from an honest review by his unsatisfied customer. Dawn

Nice way to redesign the broken cab. Many times it happens to me that a stone (sometimes even an expensive one) breaks. I reuse them by breaking off the damaged part and smoothening what is left with my Dremel brushes.

Thank you, Irith!
Maybe I'll have to give that a try with the other cab!
