Recently I have treated myself to some designs from other beaders. It is nice to just follow instructions to make a piece that has taken your fancy. I do however think it is about time I got on and did more of my own work though. Do you like making other peoples designs?

For beading, I need to at the moment, because I don’t know what I’m doing. For wire-wrapping, I only followed one design on you tube. It was okay. But I tried that with another designer and my brain just couldn’t mimic her swirls. After that, I started doing my own.

I moved the thread to "Bead with me" because I think the question fits in here nicely.
I love seeing other people's designs, but I always liked doing my own thing. I don't have the patience for instructions, so I may use parts of tutorials (I usually don't watch the whole one) for studying techniques, but I rarely made anything after someone else's design. Actually I can only think of two times. It's the same with artisan made components (with the exception of lampwork beads and cabs). I admire people who make them, but the only ones I have used so far were a few gifts.
That's also why I have never tried to sell patterns of mine, make tutorials or offer components of my own for sale.

I have used tutorials to learn how to do certain techniques, but once I have it figured out, I like to take the technique and use it to make something that is mine or at least put my own spin on it. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, I try to come up with designs on my own. The down side of this is that I can't usually remember how I made something which makes a lot of my work one of a kind. I've tried taking notes as I go, but most of the time I forget to do that until it's too late. Dawn

Consequently, I can’t reproduce it. But I think I need to use a few tutorials for the bead work, because I’m just too unfamiliar with how it’s done at this point.
