Oddly, while selling is such a pain in the patoot, I find I am missing it. I’m thinking about trying Etsy again. It looks like their take is about 8%. Does anyone do Etsy Plus? If so, is it worth it? Any other venues I should consider?
I'm on Etsy. I was selling something about every two weeks until last fall when sales dried up completely. I've had two sales this year. But, it's only 20 cents to list an item and I pay no other fees unless I sell something.
I tried Artfire a few years ago. They charge a monthly fee and I had locked in rate of $9 per month. But, sales were terrible there. At first I thought a monthly fee was a great idea until I realized that if there are no sales, it's costing me money every month. Last I heard there monthly fee was $25. No way would I pay that.
I've seen people talking about selling on Instagram and some have very good results with that. My problem is that I'm not interested in doing the self promotion that's required. My best sales results was when I was consigning with a couple of the local art galleries/gift shops in town.
Thanks so much, Dawn! Yeah, I hate the self-promotion. I have made my jewelry making activities part of the things I discuss on my blog. I think when I get things listed on Etsy, I’ll add a page to my blog where I show available jewelry with a link to Etsy. I had some good luck on Poshmark too, but that is labor intensive.
