OK this section seems to be a bit neglected so I thought I would wake it up. I definitely need some professional critique on this one, though my group is always so helpful with my hiccups *grin* I am working on a leaf/tree theme for my next collection and I had what i thought was the BEST idea for this leaf pendant. A beautiful rainbow colored leaf in a matte finish and a sparkling water droplet posed on the surface. Sounds good huh? This is what I got: So I went to my group and asked them for suggestions and they said veins, gold veins. So I added them but then when I put the matte finish on it the gold muted out and looked awful. So I re-coated the piece to make it shiny and this is what I got. And I think it looks awful. The drop loses it's pop. the lines look amateurish. I am ready to give up on this idea. Does anyone have a good suggestion to save this piece?

It is in the eye of the beholder. I actually prefer them looking a bit less 'colourful' I would drill holes in the top add some crystal drops and put them on ear wires. Then of course you would need to send them to me.

I like the idea and I like the rainbow colors. You are right, though, the veins make the drop almost disappear and I think they are also too dark for the delicate colors because they take over. How do you make the leaves? Is that all resin done in two steps or are the leaves a different material and just the drop is resin?

I like the veins, but I think they need to be more subtle and in a more muted color. Have you thought about putting the drop at the tip of the leaves? I think they would be less likely to be lost there and that they would look more like a dew drop about to fall from the leaf tip. Don't give up; you'll get it! Dawn

The leaf is resin but I put my color inside the resin. I agree the veins are too dark. These were meant to be earrings when finished but I am so frustrated with this piece. I have made 6 variations now and nothing I do seems to bring them closer to what I see in my mind. Sometimes my mind is a mean and terrible trickster that lures me down paths of futility! I will try once more and see if I can make the veins a little more subtle, maybe a brown or green instead of the gold and then the matte finish on top of that. Dawn, that is an interesting idea, I might try that too. I will keep you all updated

Is it possible to give the resin veins with something pointy instead of using color? Or maybe both? (I have Czech glass leaves on my mind here)

Cat, do you mean something like etching the vein into the resin? That's an interesting thought - would give the leaves a more life like look (say that three times fast!) and provide the subtlety. Dawn

Yes, that's what I meant, I just couldn't find the right word

The droplet of water stands out well now and the finish is halo, so they have a sparkle but not an overabundance of glitter. I think I might be happy now. What do you think? i had planned on drilling them so they hang diagonally and then put a few drops hanging from the bottom but still uncertain about that. At least now they look like leaves. (I think?)

I really like this version! beautifully done! I like that the droplet is more pronounced here too and the backdrop of the leaf is beautiful but doesn't overpower the droplet.

Thank you! I am thinking it works, the color scheme seems to be coming together and I finished another piece last night that goes hand in hand with it. Thanks so much to you all for your help. I appreciate it

Yep, you nailed it with this version! I love the subtle somewhat subdued tone of the veins; they really work now. Dawn

Just now seeing this thread. The transformation the leaves took is fabulous. Love the latest version - gorgeous.
