Well, the class has come and gone. Out of six students four of us decided to throw up our hands, beads and thread and all, after only an hour. Fortunately the instructor gave us some helpful advice: it could take as long as two weeks (or longer) to learn. Hmmm, maybe meant to be helpful. The good news is that after spending hours, some time each day as the level of frustration permitted, I can almost do an inch before losing track of things. What is the most difficult thing for me is how to hold the thread (Miyuki makes a good thread for crochet): not straight up but at an angle. Otherwise the beads fall straight down and you need some room to catch the thread between each bead. And the small hook can split the thread if you're not careful. And you need to keep tension on the thread. And you need to know where to insert the hook...well, the list gets a bit longer. The good and very best thing to have come out of the class: I need MORE beads of the proper size. My supply of size 8's is very low; that's the best size to learn with. Poor me.

I hope to figure out bead crochet one of these days. I'll be keeping tabs on you, Sue.

I don't think I'd be very good at that. I can't even braid. I lose track after the first couple of crosses.

Good luck keeping it up! I have been trying it, but the thread I used wasn't the right one. I gave up after about 3 inch and ripped the whole thing up. It came much closer to looking like bead crochet than my former attempts, but at the moment I think I'll stick with the wire.
Don't forget to share pictures!
