I think there will be a learning curve for Amazon and sellers. It will take time to see how it all works out. With no monthly fee for a year, we don't really have anything to lose.

Well, how cool is that? I can't wait until they announce that they are ready for shops to start setting up. We should start an Amazon Handmade support group. Dawn

Did anyone else receive a "time to set up shop" email this morning? I see they want product photos with no props which means I'm going to be taking a lot of new photos. And, they want them sized 500 x 1000 and most of us have been trained to crop our photos square. Egads! Dawn

Me too, Michele. I was planning on using my existing photos. If one was thinking about changing their look, this is the time to implement any changes. I've been experimenting with a gray background, but so far I'm not crazy about it. It's too dark or too purplish or something. This is bad timing what with the Christmas shopping season right around the corner! Dawn

Like you, I was hoping to use my existing photos. I've got a lot going on, so it may be awhile before I do anything with Amazon.

I'll have to retake my photos, too. Since I'm not sure how to size them to their specifications, would you all suggest I upload my pics to flickr or some other photo sharing site?

It does sound like a lot of extra work, doesn't it? Gayle, I'm not the right person to ask because what I know about this kind of stuff would fit in a thimble, but you could try one of the free photo editing sites like picmonkey or gimp. Picmonkey is really easy to use; I've heard Gimp has a learning curve. There are other free editing sites as well. I don't see why you couldn't also re-size on photobucket or flickr and then save the new photo to your computer. Your computer should have some built in photo editing software but sometimes what comes with the computer is a PITA to use. So much to do, so little time! Dawn

The photo editing program in my computer is stupid. It doesn't let me resize like the old program did. I don't get it!
I'll try picmonkey. Thanks, Dawn.

How exciting! Let us know how the set-up goes, Gayle. Hopefully it won't be too complicated or different from what we're use to. Having someone else take the photos would certainly save time. Do you have someone in mind? I've heard of people hiring photography students from their local high school/colleges to do this type of work. Gives them some much needed experience and the cost isn't as high as using a professional. Good luck! Dawn

Thanks, Dawn. I'll definitely keep you posted.
My hubby owns a graphic imaging business and most of the people working for him have photographic expertise. He has one young woman in mind. I don't think she'll be too expensive-IF she is interested and willing to take photos. I would just have to scoop up all of my jewelry and bring it to her, I imagine. Yiiii! A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

She sounds perfect, Gayle! You might even get some sales from having her as a contact. Wouldn't that be cool? Dawn

I got my registration yesterday.
Have you registered yet, Gayle? Is it a simple process? The email said the registration link was a one time use only. Before I click on it, I want to make sure I have whatever they need.
